I just can't wrap my head around it

Steven Hawking recently announced that he doesn't believe a god created the universe. Not too sure where I stand on the fence with this one but its been an ageless question and an endless quest for mankind. When/Why/Where did it it all begin?? Steven pretty much said out of nowhere the universe appeared. I just can't fathom it that way or any other way because to me so many pieces are missing.

How the hell can something be created from nothing. Does the universe just want to exist?? I don't think we'll ever find out but has anyone ever just sat down and thought about how one such large thing could exist from nowhere.

Anyone have some crazy theories or explanations they want to put out there?? Ponder away!

Well logically something must have originated from nothing, there's no infinite regression of causes.

How can you wrap your mind around an eternal, benevolent, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent God who chose to create the universe and life as we know it and spend the next few million years waiting for us to spawn before putting himself through one of the most excruciating forms of human execution known while telling us if we don't do what he says we'll face eternal damnation whether we want to live forever or not?

I think it's infinite in age. No creation, just exploding shit everywhere. Forever.

Just be sure that every time you step into the next universe that you watch your step, that 5 foot fall can be quite the doozy.

No, you're probably the first.

Personally, I find more solace in the intricate complex randomness of the universe than I do in the idea of god(s).

Which have also supposedly existed forever? It's back to square one in any case. One label is just brainwashed into us as children (the unfortunate many).

I like the theory that it's all just a temporary quantum hiccup, meaning the universe may be nothing more than a bubble created when two equal but opposite forces briefly separated before coming back together. Thus the entire universe has a net sum energy of zero, or you could even say it has a net existence of zero.

Also, it's only large and old relative to our own perspective, which is essentially meaningless in the greater scope of things.

If the universe truly came from nothing, and there is zero net energy in the universe, then it follows that a prime mover is needed to "seed" the universe. Nothing complex or anthropic; more a singular vector, or property that dictates an initial force, either repulsive or self-actualising in nature. One leads to a deterministic universe with only the illusion of free will. The other leads to a chaotic universe existing solely on the basis of free will, all the way down to gluons and strings.

If I was God, I would often stick unlikely people in unlikely places and watch awesome shit happen.

You're an idiot.

Relevant ideas from M-Theory:

-time existed before the big bang
-the universe is not unique, but one of many. A multiverse, comprised of an infinity of universes of various shapes and sizes, and possibly with varying laws of physics.
-the universe was created by chance. The theory is that at the exit point of a black hole, mater expands, into a big bang, and a whole new universe is born. The funnel of a black hole essentially being like an umbilical cord.

A series of events occurs on a timeline.
No big bang----Big Bang.

The universe is like a series of tubes... like.. tubes full of junk and stuff, and sometimes the tubes get full..

On another note, the human race could exist for another year or another billion years, and still barely see the edge of the forrest, let alone beyond it.

Why would the universe coming from nothing be any more strange than a god coming from nothing?

That's what I said in the third post and people keep repeating

That's what I-we said back when ego was created and I-we keep forgetting it

[edit] dammit Deathmaster stop getting in our own way

But then where did the multiverse come from?!?!

this all hit me like a ton of bricks last night though when I saw the light and flash of the fireworks on my pool deck. And it got me thinking, I can see these amazing explosions and hear these amazing sounds, then they all vanish. Just like in life with stars and matter and us, we're here and then we're gone.....but we leave a memory behind and sometimes we're remembered for a long long time.

What if there never was nothing, and there is no such thing as a non-existent universe.

duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudebro

All those moments will be lost in time. Like tears in the rain...

Our whole concept of 'nothing' is based on the laws of our current universe as we know them.

Stephen Hawking believed in (a) God?

Formerly he didn't discount the possibility of a god, although he found the idea highly unlikely. Now he has come to the conclusion that there probably wasn't a great architect that 'designed' the universe(s).

its funny we call it the universe, but someday we'll have to give it a name if there is a multiverse (just had to add 'Multiverse' to FF's word list)

so any good ideas for names??

How about Universe B. This place kinda feels like a "B", y'know?

How is god created from nothing? Does god just want to exist?

Same answer can be applied to your question tbh. God could've been "created" outside of the current laws we know about our universe/energy/matter/etc.

Now the arduous task of figuring out if Krynn from universe A is the evil Krynn, or if I'm the evil one.
