I was working at Gamecrazy, and the district manager called me for a meeting. When I get in the room, and the Loss guy is sitting there. First off, he says that this is an "amnesty" meeting, meaning anything that happens has no consequence (bull f***ing shit)

He explained to me that there is a lot of stuff missing from the store, and that he had video proof that I took stuff out and gave stuff away. Now, I'm an honest person, and I know I don't do stuff like that, but him accusing me like that put me in a tight position. He told me that if I wasn't totally honest with him, he would use the evidence against me in court. I do my best to think of something to tell him. I eventually tell him that I took strategy guides and magazines from the store that were to be destroyed (covers torn off and thrown in the dumpster.) Now, I was told by my manager at the time that it was okay to do that. He interrogates me further, and basically makes me feel like a petty criminal and total trash. Eventually, I fill out some forms, and I'm informed that I have to pay the company back the stuff I "stole" ($215, which was just from some cooked up estimate.) After that, he gives me over to the DM, and the DM fires me.

I've never been fired from any job in my life. I've always thought I was a good person. And leaving that room, I felt raped. They also told me that I can't tell anybody what happened in that room. I just need to unload it somewhere.

Anyway, say what you feel needs to be said.

I say go postal on them.........but thats just me, acusing you of stealing when you havn't then losing your job is terrible.....they are the ones that want firing.

My manager said I could, and he did so himself.

Maybe you're right. I always thought I was a good person, and leaving that room made me feel like shit. I dunno...

Sorry to hear of your firing. Did you and your manager get along well? Maybe he can vouch for you, since he said it was ok to take the damaged strategy guides and get your job back, that is if you want it back....

The first job I ever had was at a place that made apple cider doughnuts. I worked for one day, then my boss told me that she would call me when I was needed again. She never did. I wasnt fired per say, just laid off without any confrontation. It was a crappy job anyway....

Right. I told my parents (cuz, you know, their my parents.) Also, I'm gonna tell my friend who works there as well. He doesn't need to be intimidated by those bastards as well. Besides, looking back, I'm positive they don't have real evidence against me (mainly because I really didn't do anything.) If they did, I'd be in jail now. They just wanted to coax me into admitting something, so that Mr. Loss Prevention can show his boss that he fired somebody, and that he really is doing his job.

What assholes.

Oh, and on a different note, never shop at Gamecrazy. Ever.

hmm..did u really steal anything?
if u didn't.. and that confession was forced out of u.. then u can take it up with ur local worker's compensation board or some similar government organization.

this is not neccessarily to get ur job back.. but in case u didn't know, it goes on ur record and when u go to interviews for other jobs.. u might have alot of explaining to do (which u shouldn't have to in the first place assuming u didn't do it)

anyway.. if i were u, i'd find out who represents worker rights and get to the bottom of this.

good luck.

You have to pay them $235? Give me some adresses and I will take care of them...

Clones like who? :O

i know I damn sure would have gotten a lawyer before I signed anything.... Yiou may have messed up there man. Unless they have real proof of you stealing something they can't do anything, oh yeah and if the cover is ripped off a mag you can take it, same as the last store I worked at.

did they actually show you the "evidence" or did that prick just tell what you suposedly did?

Didn't show me anything, further reinforcing the fact that they don't have anything on me. In retrospect, my biggest regret is that I didn't quit from that job before they got a chance to fire me. I loved the job, but hated how corporate ran everything. If I was offered the job back right now, I'd throw it back in their face, and tell them I'm never shopping there again, and tell all my friends to stay away from that store.

"i just did what my manager said i could do, if anyone should be fired it should be HIM for telling me its ok to steal, and YOU for lying about having evidence on me for some shit i didnt do. im gonna walk out of here and get back to my job. if you want to try and stop me then i will let the police know what you are trying to do here"

that would have been best i think

Dude, file a complaint. If they don't have any dirt on you, that's an offense.

yeah, if what you told us was true, you need to take their asses to court and sue them into the dust, if he TOLD you not to say anything but you didnt sign anything saying you would agree (an NDA?) then you are free to let them have it in court pal, hope you win, if you do i needa new graphics card thanks bro.

Exactly. They can't legally tell you to not say anything. It's called freedom of speech. (Unless you did sign an NDA, on your own free will.)

Seriously: Take their asses to court. And if they offer you your job back, shoot them down. Or better yet, accept and then jump up, point at your manager and say "AHA BIATCH!'

start your own videogame store across the way and call it "gamehysteria". get on TV with commercials proclaiming yourself "retarded matt, the clown prince of frugality!!" and undercut your previous employer by catastrophic margins. after a series of comical events resembling a pauly shore movie from the early 90s you'll find yourself on top, your former boss stuck cleaning toilets in alaska, and the super-hot girl you've been pining for will turn out to be pretty lame, while the slightly nerdy girl you've failed to notice had the hots for you all this time turns out to be an uber-fox!

dude, take me with you!!!

take em to a tribunal. Lay the sh*t on your manager for telling you. youc could have em. Take em to court lol!! AVE IT!

did u read my post?
i don't know employments law of the US but if u are innocent then im sure theres some laws that protect u under some employment act.

u may think i am making a big deal of this.. well yes i am because this incident goes onto ur employment record and before an employer hires u, they can do a background check to see if u are a trouble maker.. anyway i can't stress it enough how important it is for u to get this thing cleared off ur record.

They said that they would take care of it, so that it won't affect my record at all. Then again, they said a lot of things. Anyway, It hopefully won't affect me much. If I can't get another part time job, I'll just have to wait until I graduate and get a REAL job.

Thank you for your concern, too. I'll definately think on it. I just need to get some sleep. Rough night, man.

Sounds like someone is trying to cover their own ass. The same thing happend to my brother. If it doesn't affect your record I wouldn't worry about it anymore. If you plan on getting back at them (I would) wait a long time. 4 months or longer so they don't suspect it was you.

Dude when they say they have evidence on you you allways ask them to show you it, they were either suspecting you and bluffed or they stole and needed a scapegoat for their actions, they can fire you but you should ask for your money back, 200 bucks is a lot money, just go there ask them to ahow you the tape or give you your money back, if they don't say that you''ll take them to court, or just tell a police officer the story and they can go in the store and ask to see the tape and if they were lying you got you ask them for your money and if you have guts for an estra 100 bucks or more.

that really sucks, especially since you didnt take any of it. $215 in strategy guides is a little bit too much. getting fired sucks

Don't tell me you forgot to use the line 'You can't fire me, because I QUIT!' ?

But seriously, if you know you're innocent, and they say they've got evidence, wouldn't seeing that evidence be your first priority?

I'd say, transfer $0.01 to them, with the comment, "this is all you're going to see asshole"

I'd say f*ck 'em, they've got nothing on you.

Dont pay, see the appropiate people. Follow advice in the thread, compensation more then worth your time ;) plus they did you the favour of informing you that they all suck!

If they have evidence of you stealing, they have to show it to you. They can't coax a signed confession out of you. What I don't understand is that if you honestly didn't steal anything, why didn't you put up a fight? If you knew they had nothing on you, because you didn't steal anything, why give in so easily? They can't make an example of you and fire you without reason. Don't pay them the money they asked for, and do file a claim against them to get your job back. That signed piece of paper doesn't mean anything if they coaxed you into signing it. It won't hold up in court when they are asked to present a tape of you stealing, and they don't have it. Then they'll be the ones in the hot seat, not you. Again, all this is relying on the fact that you indeed did not steal anything. But if you were so easily convinced that this was legit, it makes me wonder if perhaps you did give a few handouts.

i say just show them who is boss and go in there one day and just start thrashing everything and everyone.... that is the only logical thing to do

-merc

did you ACTUALLY steal the game covers, or were you just saying that because he put you in the spotlight? because if you just took some trash then i dont think he should be charging you over 200 dollars...

When you say postal do you mean with guns and moltovs or just swear at them.

More than likely swearing at them while you burn and mow them down....

Take the bitches to court.

Even though we don't have a Gamecrazy store, I'll never shop there anyway!

Yeah, take them to court. That's an incredible injustice on their part.
Make them pay.

Never let some whiny bastard push you around. Next time remember to ask for any supposed evidence.

Ofcourse you could goto a local dump find a tonne of old game magazines, walk into the store one morning and dump them onto the front counter with a snide comment like "I didn't steal any of your crap, but seing you like it so much have some more"
