I liked GTA III and Vice City. Will I like San Andreas?

Yes, I am aware there are other GTA: San Andreas posts, but they do not address my questions...

I was not a big fan of GTA III, but I must admit, I liked it because of its originality. Vice City was simply amazing. It had that Scarface/Miami Vice/Italian Mafia feel to it which appealed to me. There was this hedonistic atmosphere all over. Ladies in bikini, the beach, sunny days, you name it... The soundtrack was great.

But now comes San Andreas, set in a place that looks like Los Angeles, where you will deal with, and I quote, "the niggas" , "the ganstas". I am not sure that appeals a lot to me (no racism intended).

Having said that, is it possible that I will like San Andreas? From what I have seen, the mood and the tone of San Andreas appear way different from those of the previous installments of the GTA franchise...

If you liked Menace II Society and that whole Gangsta Culture, you'll love San Andreas.

There's much more story. Also missions don't always earn you cash (and sometimes nothing) and you no longer get $5000 for a simple job. It much more in debt than the other two, the skills system is brilliant. If you can't stand it because of hood-talk then go don a white pointy mask. It is a must have for anyone in anyway remotly liked any other GTA game.

and it takes forever navigating through the countryside getting from Los Santo's to San Fierro, etc..

Presumably because you assume all the homies in the world are black? The amount of non-black people who talk like this is on the increase dude, and even they sound like twats.

In the context of this game though it fits perfectly.

I think that talking like that suits some people, but I have yet to see a white guy talk like that and not sound like a complete idiot.

Yeah, talking like that suits thugs, people with low IQ's and general social misfits. I wish you lived on the estate I live on. Theres probably 25% white, 25% black and about 40% mixed race (black/white) and they all talk like they do in SA (or rather they try to) and the ALL sound like twats.

First off all the driving is like in VC, arcade ands fun, in GTAIII it was more realistic, I prefer arcade, but to eacht his own. I don't know what you like.

Now if you read the GTA:SA thread you would have probably read how I feel about this game. But let me tell you, first it gets better, teh story and the characters, second, even though I liked the hero and everything mroe in VC this game is better, I mean realy better. If you liked VC you will almost surely love this game.

I don't get how people can't like it simply because of the hood talk. I hate gang/rap culture entirely and I think all rap/RnB/hip-hop is the worst form of music ever invented, but I think this game rocks. I even thought Menace II Society was a decent movie.

It's not all hood talk, you'll do missions for the triads, a secret government guy, an Oasis type group with Manchester accents, and even an old hippie stoner guy.

Weren't you the guy who got upset because Half-Life 2 was "loaded with sexual innuendos"?

But to answer your question, if you liked the first two, you'll like this one (unless your offended by the sub-urban dialogue).

Is all the music in the game rap/RnB/hip-hop, etc? I don't like that stuff either.... I can always play my own mp3's right?

You can play your own MP3's, but there are rock stations in the game too with stuff like Guns n' Roses, Soundgarden, RATM, Stone Roses, Alice in Chains, The Who, Danzig etc etc etc.

it's not the hood talk, it's the stupid characters, their motivations and a actions and what they have to do and say in the beginning of the game are really stupid, and when they use hood talk it makes it look even more stupid, like their 6 year olds trying to act though and do stupid things to act cool.

Hilarity. You know its funny, you love GTA Vice city...but you think HL2 has too many sexual innuendos?

Anyway, I think GTA SA is a better game, but Vice city has the better story.

SA's story gets really interesting when you leave the first island. VC may have had a better story, but Carl has a better personality than Tommy.

I didn't like SA at all... the whole "mood" of the game sucked compared to previous ones (eg 80's or the whole organised crime thing in GTA3) I guess i'm just not into the whole "gangsta" thing

San Andreas is more disjointed than Vice City. It's not as much of a cohesive story/environment. San Andreas tries to do too many things at once... and they tend to distract from each other. Also, and this really applies to all of the GTA games, for a game that is supposed to a freeform do-what-you-want experience there are surprisingly few consequences for your actions. The biggest impact you can make is to neglect your girlfriends until they won't see you again. In the long run nothing else makes a difference. I hope the next GTA game will let the user make more of an impact on the world/story.

Nah I feel Tommy stomps all over CJ...I dunno, I just prefer Tommy. He has definatley got more personality. As for story, well, I really like SA's story, it does afterall have some of the most memorable villains (Tenpenny) though Vice city's flows a lot better and the pacing is extremley good.

The story of SA is somewhat messy at times and you don't really feel like you know exactly whats going on here and there. Still good though

Bliink: Did you get out of Los Santos?

On another note, I don't want impact on the story, it isn't an RPG.

Tommy kicks ****ing arse, dammit where Cj tries to be cool and acts like a gangsta, tommy takes care of business. But actually I'm liking this game more the more I play, it certainly gets better when you get out of the los santos. Oh and the catalina movies kick ass, especially the third ovie where you have to come in to her house.

Who cares about personality of a character in a game like GTA.
This game is all about killing and running over other people and doing stuff you wouldnt even dare to do in the real world.

I couldn't agree more. But hopefully enough, this'll change once I really get into the game and complete it.

I care as do a lot of other people, it's you thats the exeptions. So i should ask, why don't you care.

I like SA a lot. The urban gangsta theme is much more believable and realistic than the stupid mafia crap from the other games. Oh, and I like the DDR mini games. :D

Obviously R* did or else they wouldn't have bothered with a plot or even fleshing out characters in the first place.
