I may have discovered the best sleep cycle change

For the last semester I've been going to sleep about 6-8 am since I had classes at 1 pm. No doubt that takes its toll on me and I'm freakin tired, but can I take advantage of that? I felt exhausted last night so I figured, can I just significantly alter my sleep cycle right now? So I went to sleep at 12 midnight and now here I woke up at 7:20ish. Now if I want I can go to sleep again at midnight and continue this or once again become a late owl and stay up till this time. My new experiment is going to be to test this and see how well I can alternate it and discover the extent of the negative effects. I've been knowing the meaning of this crappy cycle since grade school days, but it may be possible to have it too.

tl;dr: staying up till 6-8am daily can help you sleep at midnight instantly. I'm going to test its durability of change.

I am stupid and do not understand.

It's no secret the best thing you can do is go to bed at the same time every night.

For more than 50 years, my father has never used an alarm clock, yet wakes up for work every morning by doing that. He has never over-slept.

By durability I mean how often I can switch between those two specific sleeping periods. 12-7 and 7-12. Though I'll probably really test it mid next week when finals are done. I've got 2 days before they start now though. It's been a dream of mine to go jogging at 5 am and watch the sun rise. Maybe I'll be able to do that sooner than I thought. I've had both worlds, late night is great, and I've only had the worst of the morning person routine. But I've gotten sick of the super late owl life, and maybe I can use it at discretion now.

I'd be careful about doing weird sleep schedules for long periods of time. I used to go to sleep consistently around 3 or 4 am, then switched that to 12 am-4 am. This was also made worse by living by myself for three summers straight, which meant no one was around to force me into a normal sleeping schedule. Now I'm just burned out and have trouble staying awake even if I need to, and feel tired all the time.

Or maybe I'm just getting old.

4 hours plus two cans of 16 ounce redbulls work better for me

Ah but the pitch black darkness is no longer around either. The illumination hath already begun.

DEATHMASTER, I have also been doing stuff like this, but not on purpose. Recently, I was working a night shift job from 10 pm - 6am. Because of this, I slept from 7am - 2pm, 7 hours and felt fine. Well, last week, I was fired. The first night I was home, I stayed up all night normally and went to sleep at daylight. This soon became a problem as having no job made the night time very boring and I was also getting tired of sleeping my life away during the daytime hours. So, I switched. Now I find that i'm way more tired than I used to be. I have no job now, but now sleep atleast 9 hours. I'm not a lazy guy either. After waking up, I usually work around the yard or something since finding a job is ungodly difficult.

That was just something relevant to this thread. Hope it helps you with whatever you're doing. :D

I usually sleep from 11:00 PM - 2:00 AM. Depends on how much I'm drinking/what I'm doing. I wake up at 8:25 AM and will always be the same amount of tired before work. If it's the weekend, I'll have the same amount of sleep, but wake up more refreshed.

FACT: Work has negative effects on you.

I'm going to make a claim that work is detrimental to my health and I should be paid compensation for all the work I've done.

This whole past week I've had really shitty sleep. I can't fall asleep and then when I wake up I'm done, I can't get anymore. I think its because I'm using Flannel sheets and its starting to get warmer out or maybe I'm developing a sleeping disorder. I usually get 6-8 hrs of sleep every night but when I'm getting 3 or 4 it really makes my dad drag and I'm a meaner person to people.

/bump

So I got progressively worse, sleeping at 4 am...5..6..7..8..9..1. It ended at 4pm, when I went to sleep then and woke up at 2am, apparently some 'cycle' completed and I next went to sleep at 12am and just woke up at 8am. Feels weird but hot damn.

This entire thread makes my head hurt, or perhaps I'm not getting what you guys are saying.

I usually drink multiple beers and then pass out, works wonders :D

I love having no school and working at home with no definite work hours. Sleeping whenever you're tired, day or night, for teh win.

YEAH WELL I woke up at 2 am this morning to do a god damn radio show and I've just got up from about 20 minutes of sleep and now I'm going to go to work and try to make coffee for about four hours so fffffffffzzzzzz [collapses]

I don't like my sleep cycle.

I've solved the whole sleep cycle problem by cutting it and rolling it to reduce the diameter and extend the length. It's just a straight line now.
