I got quite a bad cold yesterday and now whenever I go into a quiet room I hear a faint ringing noise. My mum says it's only temporary but it's starting to worry me. I can't get any sleep. Half the reason is cause I worry too much about it and the other half is the noise. Do you think it's permanent? I've only listened to my iPod for about 2 and a half years and I never go to live concerts etc.

It may or may not be permanent, how long has it been going on for?

Since yesterday about 6pm

Edit: I still have a cold.

Chances are, just the cold messing with your ears. Happens.

Yeah my mum says it's my sinuses or something. I also have that thing you get when you go on an airplane and your hearing goes funny.

You should get some mental floss, the kind that goes in one ear and out the other, and give that head cold a good flossing.

That's probably the case, if not you'll just have to learn to deal with it. You stop noticing the ringing after a while.
(Unless it's an extreme case, but generally that's caused by some kind of minor blood clot in the brain, or something of that matter. In the extreme cases, it can cause you to be suicidal though.)

It's probably just a mild case of hypochondria.

It's your phone. Pick it up already.

well let me console you by saying i'm also constantly hearing a ringing noise. i just forget about it, but it can be really annoying when you want to sleep in a quiet dark room.

it's might be because of all those years of firecrackers, headphones, concerts,...

Yea I'm in the tinnitus club. Mildly aggravating but I paved my way to it.

I've always had it, but the loud wind noise. I find it effective to turn on a loud fan (usually on the 3rd setting) which is enough to break the silence.

holy shit! you just made a significant discovery here...and i'm not being sarcastic.

corelation...sleeping with fan on and tinnitus, makes sense to me

Eh, I have a ringing sensation occasionally when it's quiet, it's really faint but it worries me a bit.

Sinuses are connected, this is very likely to the be problem. Taken any decongestants yet? It should go away after the cold clears, if it doesn't...MEDICCCCCCCCCC

My ears have played up when I've had colds before, sounds like what you described. I shouldn't worry unless its still there after your colds gone.

My ears randomly do shit like beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep when I'm sitting alone bored. Its usually just my ears adjusting to the sudden silence, usually after I've been listening to music, nothing to worry about.

Yours is propably connected to your cold, you told me you got the bug thats going round - sucks. I had it last week, going slowly away now. I had the worst part of it when it just started spreading round, when everybody was sick on the same day or two. The bug is pretty much gone now.

Y'know that ringing in your ears? That 'eeeeeeeeee'? That's the sound of the ear cells dying, like their swan song. Once it's gone you'll never hear that frequency again. Enjoy it while it lasts.

That's complete and utter bullshit, and that bitch Julian deserved to die for lying to the audience like that.

Hey man, dont say that. She just got bad information from someone else and didnt know any better. Jerk.

I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell.

you should isolate yourself from all contact, the infection spreads fast, soon you'll be one of them

We need to organise Highlander. Soon there will be packs of them roaming the streets. We must mobilise if we are to survive this infection.

Sounds like a sinus infection to me. I had a pretty bad one 2 months ago that lasted two weeks.

Gah, my ears are crazy as ****. I can hear people talking and stuff happening in other rooms louder than I should and overly loud music is usually too much for me, but when I'm in a conversation with a little background noise I always have to ask people to repeat stuff. I also get ear aches quite a bit.

Tintinitis is a terrible disease and I'll be really sorry to hear the news if it's true. I'd advise you draw up a will just in case, since one of the key symptoms is 'constantly getting into adventures in exotic places which carry a high risk of death or injury'. Also watch out for suspicious pairs of bowler-hatted men.

It's your phone. Pick it up already.
I lol'd.

i've got tinnitus. its annoying but you get on with it don't you

My mums says it's just my mind playing tricks on me, but I'm definitely hearing it. My mum doesn't even fully believe I hear ringing when it's quiet.
