I need this settled!

First of all, ive searched for an answer to this and im still hazy!

Heres my scenario.....While i dont have an internet connection, i live in whats basically a dorm.

I was planning on taking my comp to a buddy's room and using his internet to register.

Would that work?????? Once registering my copy via my friends internet connection i was simply going to leave steam in offline mode and unplug everything, then resume normal operation of my comp.

Is that cool?????

It should work for awhile.

But Valve appears to have unintentionally ...cough...put in a feature that disables the offline mode after a certain period of time.

In contrast, I think there are some threads that talk about people setting their clocks to 2010, with Steam offline still working. For the time being however, offline mode should be fine for a while.

do the patch then while online go to the properties and disable the automatic update for hl2 - seems to have worked for my friend
