 In your opinion(s), what do you think would be a reasonably priced system for the playing of Valve's Half-Life 2 interactive game for the Windows PC platform? I would like to put together a machinecomputeradora that will play it smoothly, by the way, not simply a piece of cheap shit that just gets by. I'm Canadian.

Radeon 9800XT, Athlon 64 with an nForce3 motherboard and 1gb of DDR400 running in duel.

That should get you by just fine. ;)

oooh, THAT! I thought you meant the non-interactive macintosh productivity software.

By the time the games comes out, radeon 9800 pro will be sub $250 everywhere, so that's a good vid card.

512 ram is prob enough, but its cheap these days so go for more if you can.

p4 2.8 would be reaonably priced esp with the fast fsb, the cpus just under the cutting edge are usually good deals. (maybe 3.0 gig by then)

everything else doesn't really matter, get a nice hard drive and a nice soundcard (audigy gamer or something).

Summary:
p4 2.6 - 3.0
radeon 9800 nonpro/pro
512+ mb ddr ram
other stuff.
