Today, Ubisoft was at my school with 7 debug Xboxes running PoP2, Ghost recon 2 and Rocky. Most unfortunately, Splinter Cell 3 was missing, but at least I played PoP2. It was about the same demo that we saw at e3 this year and it was really fun.
The combat system has received a good dose of polish. In fact there are quite a few combos, especially some involving jumping on your opponent and landing either on him or others. You can also grab and throw enemies on others, on a wall, or down a pit. After a few hits, the prince can cut their head off or slice their torso in two. Fortunately, you don't have to stab them with a dagger to finish them, but they still disappear in a cloud of sand when they die. The good thing is that their weapons don't disappear, so you can pick them up. Some even had axes. They are a lot of possibilities with the environment during a fight by either jumping continuously from wall to wall while stabbing opponents, or when turning around a column slashing everyone in the way.
In one of the rooms, there were some spikes that would come up from the ground when stepping on a switch. It was fun to this trap to destroy enemies. And this time they don’t teleport near you, they can run and are much more agile than in sands of time. The giant troll was really great, you could walk in between his legs as long as he does not kick you.
The graphics were much better than in sands because of dynamic shadows! Although objects did not cast shadows, it was great to watch a sword fight moving from one light source to the another. There was also some bump mapping and specular highlights that gave more life to the environment and characters.
I am convinced that this game will surpass sands of times, altought this demo seemed to have less acrobatics and more fights.
