I sure envy all you guys who can play HL2

I can't play HL2. I downloaded a Steam update and now it doesn't work. It's over a day since I can't play HL2.

I need help

I have read stuff about firewalls blocking Steam.exe/ HL2.exe after downloading the updates. I have the firewall that comes winxp sp2. I have tried disabling it, adding those files to the exceptions list but no luck. I can't connect to the servers...

So for now I will just stop beating a dead horse and assume the problem is with the firewall. I need to know how to configure the firewall in order to be able to play HL2.

I have done that. No luck.

How about actually removing the firewall? How do I do that?

Yeah, I never liked service pack 2 anyways. It annoys me how it asks me if half-life 2 is okay to run, and then even though I tell it to remmeber this decision it ALWAYS asks again.

Are you sure? I think its directly at the bottom.

Anyway,as for your firewall, try contacting your internet service provider and asking them what you can do.

Sp2 works fine here.


To the thread starter, just uninstall SP2 like a few have suggested. It works fine for me, but if its causing you problems just do away with it.

What doesn't work fine here is HL2/Steam.
I will keep searching for answers. If this problem isn't fixed I guess I will have to bite the bullet and format my hard drive.

I doubt that will fix anything. Seriously, contact your isp and talk with thier trouble shooting centre, they can help im sure.

I don't belive it is SP2, I get the dreaded can't log in problem, and I don't have SP2.. makes Edgar sad ;(
