I think Episode 1 told us more about the Gman then we think.

The Gman is a really powerful guy who can seemingly stop time and pull you away from the explosion on the citadel. The Vortigaunts pulled Alyx from the explosion as well, although it did take a few more. Also the Vortigaunts have access to whatever it is the Gman holds you in. I'm thinking that the Gman is just a really powerful Vortigaunt. It could just be the voice actors but even the inflection in their voices is similar. The Vortigaunts and the Gman seem to be working towrds the same goals. In Halflife it seems Gman is pointing you twords Xen to destroy Niahlenth(sp?) to free the Vortigaunts. In HL2 the Vortigaunts seem to want the Combine destroyed and the Gman brought you back for the same reason.

This is just something I thought of while trying to sleep. If its stupid beyond belief dont be afraid to flame away!

I don't think that is too far fetched. The Nihilanth himself says that the G-man is not human and it is a possibility that when he says 'Deceive you... will deceive you' he is talking about the G-man. This shows that the Vortigant and the Nihilanth know who the G-mna is, at lteast more than you do.

Now, if the G-man wanted you to free the Vortigaunts, which is not exactly clear, and he was some kind of "more-powerful" Vortigant, why wasn't he enslaved while the Nihilanth was still alive.

I still hold firm to the belief that the G-man is his own separate entity who is after his own goals and is in no direct relation with the Combine or the Vorigants or the Rebels. The Gman could be still working for the US government, for all we know.

That's what makes him so bad ass, he comes and goes as he pleases, but Episode 1 is the first tarnish on his character, we finally see him thwarted and we all wonder "what teh hell?!1"

The Vortigaunts use some kind of field to hold him back. Two of them could just hold onto a human and stop him (okay, three if the human knows karate).

The Vortigaunts are chanting and the G-man replies, "We'll see about that." Was he saying that rhetorically or did he reply to something the Vortigaunts were "saying"?

I think the G-man is another species of alien that maybe was once allied with vortigants or just some 'all-knowing' dude that can understand the Vortigants. I really do not believe his is a vortigant because he seemed surprised to see them when they were holding them back

and if he is a Vortigant, why hadn't the otther Votigants come into Gordon's statis to use him? I understand that the Votigants probably stopped the Gman from getting to you because they want you to have your own free will, after all they were just slaves, they caught the 'freedom bug.' But who is to say that the Vortigants are good and are not using you in their own selfish way?

I don't know, while the Vortigants seem to have a very similar goal and similar powers to the G-man, I do not believe they are the same species.

Keep in mind that in HL1 the Gman sent you to kill Nihinlanth, who was referred to as the "Lesser" somethingerother (boss) in HL2 by the Vort. Making us think the "Advisor" was the big boss. In HL2, the Gman indirectly sends you after him.

I think, whatever the Gman is, that he is simply after multi-demensional denomination... like every other bad guy. He may have started off offering your services to the hiest bidder, but I think he's had an agenda the whole time.

I dont think he has to be friends with the Vortigaunts. Throughout our history there have been plenty of humans working twords their own goal. I think the Vorts didnt grab Gordon earlier because they didnt know about him. At the end of Halflife the Gman grabbed him up pretty quick after the Nihaleth was destroyed. In HL2 the Vorts grabbed him because they knew what he was. I was also thinking about how the Vorts knew there was an explosion so quickly. Remember the Vorts have a "hive mind" and would know what the Gman knows.

Or, maybe earlier the Gman was working with the vorts. They didnt grab him earlier because they were waiting for the right time. In Breens office Breen mentioned Gordon's services were up for the highest bidder. Highest bidder=vorts and the resistance? Gman said he was getting offers for your services and those services ran counter to what the Vorts wanted so they took you.

This is just my theory, I was hoping it was better then Gman=GORDON!!!!1

What's more, his name isn't G-man, so you can't associate that with him being a Government man.

I am aware that the name "G-man" was just the term for his model in HalfLife but on the official Episode 1 website he is called "G Man"

While it might not be his actual name, that is what Valve is calling him. And if you look at my signature, he says "government" property. Why else would he say that? If he doesnt work for the government now (since the US is kaput) he most likely did have relations with them at one point.

Probably so he could fit in a little more. He used Black Mesa to transform Gordon into a killing machine, he couldn't just walk around without some sort of connection to the place.

At the end of OP4, he mentioned he needed to bring "Closure" to his report. What if the Suitcase was just for Black Mesa? Okay, what I'm trying to say is, it's obvious G-Man and whatever organization he works for has a history with Black Mesa...what if the suitcase he was holding was just meant for Black Mesa? Like a file report something? Eh, forget it. Just putting that theory out there.

Possibilities as to why the GMan says "We'll see about that."

1) The Vortigaunts are using their powers to contain him. He says it in response to this action.
2) He sees the Vortigaunts around you (Freeman) releasing you from stasis. He says it in response to this action. (Note that at the very end of the shot there are some Vortigaunts up by the camera. I believe that this part of the intro is from Freeman's POV.)
3) Combination of 1 & 2.
4) He understands Vortigauntese and says it in response to what they're saying.

I think there still is a chance the G-Man was associated with the US government. Perhaps the G-Man's employers secretly controlled the US government all along (like Majestic 12 in Deus Ex). That would explain the why the Marines used such "questionable ethics", because the guys giving them the orders knew how serious the threat really was, thanks to the G-Man.

I don't think he had any connection with US Government, or his employers. He used Black Mesa to transform Gordon - humanity was not in his interests.
