I think I've decided on this card as the one I'm getting for Christmas. I really want the AIW features and I think this card is perfect. But how much slower is this than a 6600GT AGP? I know the 9800 pro is kinda starting to get old, but for one thing I can't run 1600x1200 and 1280x1024 without any AA or AF turned on is fine with me. Is it big enough of a difference to just get the 6600GT and like a $30 tv tuner card later? Cause I want this card to last a while, as much as 1 and a half years I think, once I get it that's it for graphics cards until then. And also keep in mind I won't be upgrading the cpu so if it would bottleneck the 6600GT which I doubt it would that's something else to consider. One last question could I put a VGA silencer on this 9800 pro even though it's an AIW and has the TV Tuner on it? Whew, long post.

Bump, please I need help on this I don't wanna get the wrong card.

Yeah I know if I could I'd get that but unfortunately it doesn't look like that's in my range, really $200 is my range so the 9800 pro or 6600GT are the choices.

hmm, if i were you id go with the 6600 gt, ur processor is fine, it wont bottleneck anything, and unless u REALLY want that tv tuner feature, just get the $30 card l8ter like u suggested, hope this helped :)

There are times when the 6600GT is pretty high and there are other times when it is right besides the 9800pro. The 9800 Pro (256bit memory bus) generally will take less of a performance hit when using AA/AF than the 6600GT (128bit memory bus).

6600GT AGP review (includes 9800 Pro)

If you want the multimedia features then go for it. It's a great price. Although if you want the top performer then the 6600gt is a great deal too.

Well thanks I'm gonna get the AIW 9800 pro, can't wait to check out those extra features as well as finally having good graphics on my games, cause even turned up all the way they look terrible on the 5200 but I know the 9800 pro won't dissappoint. Just two final questions:

Is there any significant difference in image quality between the 9800 pro and the newer cards? (6600, 6800, X800, etc.)

And also I think I'll get the VGA Silencer later on so I can overclock to slow down the aging once this card starts to struggle with games. But can I put one of those on an AIW card?

Right now there is no real difference between Nvidia and ATI IQ as both cards produce images of outstanding quality. Nvidia have learnt thier lesson from the FX cards....

I would also like to comment on what Asus has previously said about Nvidia cards falling behind when FSAA and AF quality is turned up. Generally nvidia cards more than keep up and sometimes exceed thier ATI counterparts when high FSAA is implemented. However its Anisotropic Filtering where Nvidia cards fall behind. This is likely due to the fact the Nvidia use full trilinear filtering against ATI's trilinear/bilinear blend which speeds things up at a minor expense of image quality. This may sound bad but to be honest you would need very good eyes indeed to notice a difference.

He didn't say that Nvidia fell behind in AA and AF, he said that any card with a 128 bit memory bus, instead of a 256 would have less AA and AF performance hit.
