I think this would be cool music for a HL2 level.

It's from the documentary "Fog of War" and it was written by Philip Glass.

Don't you guys think it has that HL2 feel? Probably couldn't use this exact piece, but music like this really needs to be in Aftermath.

It's not....electric enough? ... and I got more of a fantasy-questy-adventure feel than sci-fi-death-awe feel that HL2 music gives...

m.e.h.

I guess the tune/rhythm is okay, but definitely the wrong instruments...

Well, it's not for an action sequence.

It's more of an atmospheric type of mood-heightener, you know, during a lull in the action.

EDIT: And remember, Hl2 is not just a sci-fi run and gun FPS. It is also about conspiracies and mysteries. This music DEFINITELY has that type of feel.

eww, not even for a non action sequence this music would be suited.. I mean, flutes? in a HL2 OST? C'mon! :D Its suxx! ^_^

Oh jeez. It's not for an action sequence.

People have absolutely no taste. An opera? Opera's aren't instumental my friend. they are aboput singing, this is purely instumental.

And what the hell is wrong with a flute? They can be very dramatic actually.

I guess people on this site aren't exactly the type to appreciate this, or see a movie like "Fog of War" for that matter.

What are you talking about? This music is gravy for the type of film you're talking about, but it doesn't fit with the ambient/breakbeat/techno soundtrack common to the Halflife series, which is why as a piece it isn't suitable.

Nothing to do with musical taste, it just doesn't fit. Although as a piece of film music, it's generic; the modulations are uninteresting, the flute ostinato is uninspired and the instrumentation is generally bog standard IMO

Now THAT is how you tell me I'm wrong!

I like that little part where it goes "duhhhhdduddduudduududdhhhhhahhaaaa!!!" But othewise, ack...no.

I sole hardedly agree, excellent music, people DON'T have taste, also people, he mentioned NOT FOR A BATTLE SEQUENCE, but theres always that group of 10-15 people who respond, ew I can't imagine fighting the combine while playing this. Damn it

That sounds more like a Hitman tune to me. But it's very good, i like it.

I think it would be quite good for a stealth sequence at night perhaps... But the otherwise electric touch to the HL2 OST would maybe alienate this track from the rest.

Um.....wow.

That musical piece was awesome to say the least. I agree that this would not fit an action sequence at all in Half-Life 2, but could be used in a more dramatic, plot twist/conspiracy thing. It's very mysterious. I like it a lot. Granted, it isn't fast paced, but not all music has to be fast-paced to be good! Even for a computer game!

NOT half life music. At all.

Okay. Why not if it's not for an action sequence?

This music is actually very similar to a piece that IS in HL2.

The part right after Ravenholm, after a rebel/combine skirmish and a girl says "Winston's been hit," music very similar to this starts up.

Check it out, it's on map d1_town_05.

I like it the music a lot.

If the scenario was that Alex was just kidnapped and you were chasing after her, and they take her to a big old mansion with lots of puzzles and boobie traps, i could see that music being right there when you enter the house and are trying to orient yourself.

Nice music, but its style only supports a very narrow mood. If valve had the perfect scenario than by all means it should be used, but otherwise they should leave it for another game (like Resident Evil 5) I don't think there are many scenes in HL2 where it would feel appropriate.

flutes can sound really good, but in this case it even sounds out of place in the song itself. Doesn't sound good at all

It doesn't matter if it's not fast-paced (although it's running faster than some of the OST), fact remains if you're familiar with the soundtrack of both HL and HL2, the orchestral style is horribly inconsistent with halflife sound design, and as such doesn't merit inclusion

tbh can't believe people are still debating this! Anybody who has watched a half decent film with an orchestral soundtrack should realise this piece is bog-standard at the very most, regardless of it's suitability as a halflife track.

I like it. It sounds a lot more like music for the Minerva mod than for HL2 though. :p

That bit got my eyes watering, was very emotional :(

Winston was a good friend of mine but as for the music, aye, i think it would suit that more, subtle, after a huge fight sequence if ya get me.

It would work, if a level was designed around the atmosphere in the music. It just doesn't feel... Half-Lifey... to me.
