Anyone use the GIMP? (GNU image manipulation program - http://www.gimp.org/). It's an open source program so you pay nowt for it. Not that I honestly believe anyone actually owns Photoshop legitimately... Anyway, even though it can be a little cumbersome to use at times, its existance does mean that no-one needs to be suffering using paint...
