I wonder if Source can simulate...

possibly, you'd need the eyes to shine and tears to scroll down the face though - I don't think that's possible.

hmm i dont think it can simulate tear drop or moving water, but i think it can in some ways.. in other words, i really dont know :D

I'm sure you could even write some code to make it generate like a small tear droplet with the water material that falls, or even some sort of anime style sparkle sprite, rofl.

edit- it wouldn't have to be moving water so to speak, it could be a solid object with the water material that is reflective like they eye, it could delete itself and generate some sort of splash effect on contact of another physical object.

edit- as for tears running down the face that would also be easy, just like running water texture just either have a replace the entire face texture or just overlay it, just bump map the texture to appear solid and standing out more at the bottom leaving a streak and have it move progresively down the face.

Eyes shining is easy, but tears no, not physically simulated anyway.

If they could do this, then they could: Generate spitting, piss, flatulence(Maybe?)

I dont know, I still think its delayed........jk

I think maybe you can script a tear.

Could you change the texture on the face to be the exact same as normal only it has added stuff on it to make it look like the character is crying? You may be able to show something like running water on the texture (You can supposedly make a monster that appears to be made of water), seems like it could work...

i hope they can update the source (later .. after the release!) to let it simulate water. i mean, for hl3 i don't think valve is oing to make another engine from scratch! they will probably improve the source engine, so hopefully sometime soon there will be a water simulation. but that's not the problem, the problem is: are they gonna provide it to the hl2 community? or keep it for hl3?!?!

Its tradition now to make a new engine with a new HL2, it'll come out 2010 or so proabaly

the crying expression is easy (relatively) and I think that Valve has said that they can do sweat on characters so crying doesn't seem that far off... cool idea.

Whoa! Hold on there. Simulating realistic water would take an extreme amount of CPU power. Probably more than anything that any computer will be able to do for many years. That is of course if your thinking about lakes or ponds filled with water that will act completely realistically.

They can't update source with realistic water, just wait for hl3, we'll have double the processor speed by then (maybe triple?) and could run stuff faster.
