teh said that the last 3 videos were gonna be released w/ the final ver. of steam... and that the benchmark would be released on sept. 30... what gives valve?!?!?!?

Well you see there was this little hacking incident, not many people have heard about it so I dont blame you, and Valve pushed everything back a lot.

Have patience young padawan and the way of the Force shall come to you

The Half-Life 2 Benchmark has been delayed until 2015.

What the good folks said before me. I'd like to add that Valve never ever said there would be a benchmark release on the 30th.

I don't think Valve ever told that the benchmark would be delayed but they neither give any absolute date of release, just a relative date (days before the game release).
What is strange, is that they don't more speak about it. I can't see the precise relation between the hacking and the silence about the benchmark. Are they just waiting to give a precise date of the game release before releasing the benchmark ? Or is it a direct relation between the improvements they are making in the game and the benchmark itself ?

Everyone just assumed that the benchmark was going to come out the 30th (my birthday), but it never did. Boo hoo, what're we gonna' do? :p

i wish folk would stop saying the hack was the cause of the delay, it WAS NOT the cause it was a valid excuse and Valve were saved by the bell

a playable benchmark would be awesome....nothing game releated but u could like walk around the g-man....or spectate like a scripted battle or somethin

That'd be cool...:cheese:

i dont think any benchmark is playable, if it were the score would vary and it wouldnt be a very accurate benchmark.

someone said that there are playable benchmarks....and its got all the frames drawn...so u can see how u do when looking at something

umm actually Vavle did state that the benchmark would be released on the 30th at the ATI event. It was the last point in the powerpoint presentation.

in the presentation.??..i didnt know that...hmm...valve really needs like some kind of progress website or news

...and so, that's how one HL2 fan guaranteed himself a lifetime of hatred and scorn. :)
Seriously though, an 'interactive' (not playable, the play suggests its a game) benchmarker would rock. Nothing quite like marking a bench on a lazy afternoon when I should be doing homework.

The ATI Shaderday event where Gabe Newell gave a powerpoint presentation explaining why the GeforceFX series is not a good DX9 card is where he mentioned the benchmark would be out on Sept30. You can find it here:

Bottom of the page. Last point.

Which is currently unspoken! So crap, it's never and a few months? :(

Hmmm I seem to recall someone from valve (Gabe) saying the benchmark would be coming out "about the same time as HL²"

Valve couldn't release a fart into the atmosphere on time, let alone a game.

My thinking exactly...

That or around the same time Duke Nukem Forever is released...

Or when I marry Britney Spears and her now-existent twin sister...

Or when ...ah you get the point..

I'm afraid an incomplete version of the fart has been leaked to the public. We will now begin damage-limitation for an indefinite period. Please bear with us as we use any excuse we can find to explain our lax-a-daisical work-ethic.

It continues to amaze me that some people actually believed in that sep. 30 th date.

I think that it was entirely obvious that Valve was never gonna make that deadline ( if only 'cause they have never ever made a deadline ) so the hack was probably as good an excuse as anything that they could come up with.

They said they'd release the benchmark before HL2. They seemed to suggest not releasing it 6 months before the game, but rather just before as an additional hype booster. Some of you guys are seriously clutching at straws now.

3dmark 2001SE was a benchmark, and it had a playable demo included with it. Game 1 was fully playable. However, you are right, the actual benchmarking procedure involved no user input.
