This is one genre that always gets overlooked by gamers.

Why though? The old west would make some great fun for a game.

Espically with the HL2 source engine.
Imagine all the bar fights and different ways you could throw people off balacony's onto tables and other things :D

I hope someone at least attempts to make a mod set in the old west.
Bringing a feeling of the old spagethhi(sp) westerns to it.

errrm there is a big sp level for HL that was a WILD WEST MOD you know.

Most engines have a wild west mod of sorts (UT does, I think Q3 does, UT2K3 has one in progress) - if the game is successful, I'm sure someone will make one.

I'd like to see it too. Could make good use of the physics engine!

Check out the mod "Wanted!" maybe the team that made that mod will make a mod for HL2. :)

no it was a SP level for HL i have played and finished it. it was very cool.

mod western level. lots of new guns and horses and it was very funny and cool

I remember a western mod for Doom that was really cool. They did such a good job on it. Really atmospheric. Hmm... *considers installing Doom again to see how crappy the mod was*

Are you sure it wasn't Outlaws? That game had lots of style, I think ti could be a basis of a good mod.

Outlaws? Don't know what the name of the mod was but I know it was definitely a mod, not a standalone game, if that's what you mean.

OUtlaws was cool.
but it had too much of a "arcadey" feel if you ask me.

I'd like to even see maybe a open ending wild west game.
Where you make of it what you want.

Become a outlaw, a bounty hunter, sherriff, blacksmith, farm your own land.

Have horses, all that good stuff.

I could even see it as a mmog.

I've been working with a team on a western mod for UT2003 called Lawdogs (lawdogs-mod.com) for a while now. Although its going to be one hell of a mod, the general intrest from the community is pretty slim. I think the reason is that most gamers are young... and prefer more modern mods (like CS).

I could be wrong though.

What I'd personally like to see is a Wild West mod that emphasizes the use of cover. When I think of Wild West gunfights, I think of the good, the bad, and the ugly ducking behind tables, barrels, etc.

There's a game currently in development for the PS2 (I believe it's multi-console, but I can't be sure of it) called kill.switch. From the looks of it, finding cover and duking it out from there plays an important role.

Of course, the mod would probably need to be in 3rd person.

I am the only person who remembers Private Snafu ;( ?

He was making a western mod....
come to think of it... what happened to all the other great mod ideas here Cerberus, (me and him got off on a bad footing, I think he's ok now :) ) Mith (LGW "We aren't a bunch of kids":p) and others... oh the carefree days of may... ;(

Hey... I agree with you. I setup the forums, when I first did it I left it open to everyone so you could post replys without registering, but the founder of the mod thought otherwise...

I agree, it often does get looked over... imagine as you ran from one side of the town across the street to the bar while shooting at someone on the bandit side whos on his horse with his buffalo rifle...

Also you could have duels based on the honour code (after the clock runs down 5 seconds then you both turn and shoot)
