Is it pronounced "I D" or is it "id' as in "hid" without the 'h'
I've been hearing lots of both, but the question is, which one is the right one?

I'll guess it's like "hid" without the "h"

Because in one of the Commander Keen games, it says, "About Id Software .... Id Software's goal...." Since they capitalize the "I" but not the "d" :O on that particular screen, I'd say it's not I.D. :dork:

i always thought it was I.D. eye dee..this is the first time ive heard it being pronounced id..

I always associated it with the Freudian term "Id" that refers to the animal instincts, the primal urges, of the human subconscious... because, well, Id Software games basically let you act on violent impulses that you normally have to suppress.

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner.

It is pronounced 'hid' but without the 'h', so you would say 'id'. Pronouncing it I.D. is wrong.

Yeah, I've seen a video with John Carmack, and he pronounced it id aswell, not I.D.. I'll still say I.D. though.

Its id. The id guys said it that way a quakecon.

I still say I D though.

Its like I think of warez pronounced as wear-ez, as opposed to wears.

If the guys that made the company pronounce it as "hid without the h" its pronounced as "hid without the h".

Yeah, I always connected it with Freud's work too.

Heh...that sounds so made up :p

After everyone has figured it out. Yeah, I always thought that too. In fact, I knew it all along...I was just waiting for someone else to say it.
:p

It's NOT "eye-dee". This is not identification software.

It's "hid", without the "H". Refer to OCybermanO's defination for it.

Hahaha, people actually say it like I.D.?!

Weirdos.
