ID Software Bought By Bethesda Parent Company, ZeniMax

I assume this means Id properties will be published by ZeniMax now, as opposed to Activision/VUG? I wonder if this applies retroactively in any way to titles in development.

I'm sorry but I think Doom 3 was a very good game, great graphics, gameplay as smooth as a babies bottom, cool setting, interesting story, etc. It wasn't the best FPS ever, but while it lasted I think it was just as fun. Actually I don't even know an FPS I've enjoyed more while playing through singleplayer...

It could be used as demonstration on the word medicore.

Ok I've explained why I think it's a good game, but you haters just keep saying 'oh it's bad' 'it's a crappy game', care to explain why you think it's bad? Seems to me alot of yous are just jumping on some kinda gay butt sex bandwagon.

ITT: people think that iD is in the business of making games, and not tech demos for game engines.

Ok... I can't speak for everyone else, but here are the reasons I didn't like it much.

1.Weapon special effects. Particle systems, decals, sounds etc. I don't like any of them. The sound and FX of a game weapon play a huge part in the satisfaction of using it. And the stock material just failed to deliver. The same can be said about Quake 4, the weapon sounds are just terrible, especially the machinegun sound.

2. Gore. For a game that is supposed to be gory, it really disappoints. Bodies "burn away" right after death. Zombies when shot a t point blank range with the shotgun disappearing in a cloud of blood like in some cheap cartoon.

3. "Realistic elements". Who the hell thought it was a good idea to put stamina in a game like this, it makes as much sense as putting prone in Serious Sam.

4. Too dark. And not "scary" dark, but annoying dark. Turning up the brightness in the options menu doesn't even help because of the exaggerated contrasts in this engine.

5. Claustrophobic environments and very limited amounts of enemies that could appear at the same time. Mostly due to engine limitations, and to conserve performance.

As far as I'm concerned Paynkiller is more Doom than Doom 3. Mindless blasting of endless hordes of monsters, with rock music raging in the background.

Atleast it was better than FarCry.

They said it won't apply retroactively.

I thought Doom 3 was great after fixing the weapons sounds mainly, but a bunch of other fixes made the game a bit sweeter.

I particularly liked the airlocks and going on the surface of Mars. Unfortunately, they didn't use Mars surface very much at all.

The best part was the first stage, when hell breaks loose. Love the way that dude morphed into a zombie, shame they never used that again in the game.

So... this means they'll be looking to restore the size of their dev team?

/applies

LOL. It's amusing how we bash game developers being in it just for the money, but the truth is, if we were in their place and doing their job for a living we'd be like that too. I know I would.

YAY...the gaming world is becoming a monotonous corporate blob. YAY for the world! YAY

YAY

i'd like my 3 men teams back, thank you.

developers alot of the time have nothing to do with it...mostly its the publishers ass raping them to churn out crappy games.

Why don't I like it? Very simple. While I was playing it I was bored to tears. I pumped at least an hour's worth of gameplay into that game and I had to force my way through it all. Eventually I decided to stop waiting for the fun to kick in and played some games I enjoyed instead.

Possibly the only thing you've ever said that I agree with.

Hey, maybe id will allow Bethesda to use idtech5 for any of their upcoming games. That would definitely be a plus, because Bethesda's latest engine is horrible.

I think this is a good thing.I actually liked Doom 3.
And as for Bethesda i liked Morrowind,Oblivion and Fallout 3.

All those games are fine. You're just being ridiculous.

It's Samon, he's the purest and most quintessential elitist neckbeard around these parts. You're not going to change him.
