id Software - Todd Hollenshead Interview.

Doom movie a success? Failure is more in order, I think.

Thats what i thought when i read that. Sad...While watching it all i can think of is how it could have been insane.

It could have, but it wasn't. It flopped terribly. I can't believe Todd can sit back and praise it...at least Carmack had the balls to say he hoped by the end he wasn't ashamed of it. Anyone fancy guessing how John is feeling right now?

At least he isn't negative about Steam in the interview :)

Not all that much new info there, but still interesting to hear some of his opinions. I am still concerned about games being $60+. ES4 the collector's edition is supposed to be $70 for the 360 version at least! At least HL2: CE came with a t-shirt!

And yeah, if they consider completing the Doom movie a success, then yes, it was a success. Otherwise, not so much.

Plz give me where Carmack said that? Id love to hear/read it.

Doom wasn't that bad, and it did come close to breaking even from the $60 million budget. I don't think Todd H is going to say "Oh man that Doom movie sucked" , especially not when the dvd just came out.

Anyway id is working on phone games, that's fabulous.

I found the DNF maybe in 2006 comment interesting, since id and 3dr are still pretty close.

And about the new IP, id recently file trademarks for "Rage" and "Rage:Anarchy." (Thanks to 3dr forumers for the find)

Wow @ that. Very interesting.

DVD sales will make up for that :/

Maybe in 10 years they will do a remake that will be good lol

Valve has already hinted at moving away from first-person shooters, and adopting a monthly fee-based service (like MMORPGs).

Excuse me, but where the **** do they get their info? Idiots.

Now the conspiracy will begin yet ****ing again. GREAT.

Idd imo has gown down hill, they have outsourced development of classic game franchises with very limited QA. Whored movie rights to Doom before even makeing sure the end product would be something decent, and I recently read a pcg carmack interview in which he stated that modding was more or less dying out.

We'll see if I ever become interested in another Id game like I was with Quake I/II/II and the doom series. I certainly hope so.

I want to see the movie Doom, just for the fact that I love DooM. I don't expect grammy award winning acting or plot or anything. I want to see a movie about demons from hell breaking loose on Mars. I'd like to see the 1st person "game type" thing i keep hearing about at the end as well. Im going to rent it.

When considering profit, you have to consider that the DVD just came out, and many more people are buying or renting movies now-a-days, with thier home theater systems. Also you should factor the impact that a movie will have on sales of games.

I don't think the Resident evil or Final Fantasy movies did all that well either.. I shudder to mention the nerdiness that was the nintendo movie about super mario brothers tournament or whatever. LMFAO

The 1st person sequence was the best part of the movie.

the most important bit from the interview, RTCW 2 confirmed:

"The next Wolf game is using the 360 as its primary development platform, but will be released on the PC as well. "

wolf = Return to Castle Wolfenstein

That was confirmed a while ago, but yes, it was definitely the most important bit of this interview. RTCW is one of the greatest games of all-time and I still love to go back and play it. The flamethrower effect was amazing!
