I downloaded tunnels again and realised I didn't have a clue what the ammo type Gordon has just picked up when the clip starts is. The screen is attached, can anyone identify it?

I thought, going on HL's evidence, that the RPG fired those bulky white missiles...

Perhaps they've redesigned the ammo (The launcher looks a little different from HL's in the Coastline vid). Looks more like a torpedo to me, though.

[EDIT]: Yeah, I'm with Varsity on this one...

10 yellow dildo's for optimal penetration pleasure...

No seriously, I think it's the grenade launcher ammo, when he fires his grenade launcher later on, he has 5 nades in his clip, and 10 more left.

It must be the ammo for his smart flare gun that he uses to set that combine on fire.

Could be... Why is that thing called the "Infinity Rifle" on the weapons page here?

the incindiary rifle?, rockets for the incindiary rifle, :p :rolling:

Have you guys ever seen a real rocket launcher?
The one in HL is a grenade launcher (RPG).

A real rocket launcher has rockets the size of the launcher itself, it's rockets on the picture. I mean, look at the video. That thing is defintly a rocket launcher, not a RPG.

Could be, clarky... the US government messed around with kinetic missiles years back...

Which video? Tunnels with the unidentified gun, or Coastline with the new-model RPG (And yes, some of us do know what an RPG is)?

RPG stands for Rocket Propelled Grenade. Technically "rocket launcher" and "grenade launcher" are correct terms for the RPG.

The coastline one. I've never said that you didn't. Sorry if I got misunderstood.

Well, in HL it basicly fires a grenade that goes on a straight line. This is a rocket.

The grenade doesn't go in a straight line in you've got Mr. Laser switched on... :naughty:.

I'm so glad they've brought that back for HL2

And it seems to be more realistic now, if you watch Coastline...

[EDIT] By which I mean, it doesn't go for the absolute end point of the laser beam, it goes for where the beam actually hits... which means that it can loop back if it misses the target...

True, that is good.

And the ammo looks like it's for that "indecinary" launcher or whatever it's called.

A grenade launcher is different to an RPG. The grenades in a grenade launcher are designed to have no further 'rocket' propulsion after launching, so they arc and drop the ground after a certain distance.

Ah, so it's an Anti-tank grenade launcher, as opposed to Anti-personnel.

The ability to have it loop around is extremely cool.
Did anyone also notice that the gunship enters a "dodge mode" when the first rocket is fired, in which it stops shooting, and concentrates on strafing away from the rocket?
That's cool AI, especially when compared to the helicopters in HL1.

:hmph: Sometimes the Gunship will shoot down the rocket propelled grenade, SO COOL!

What? Oh no... don't tell me you... :(

Uhhhh... You know... that seems to be a missile ,probably for the rocket launcher.

Thank you to 15 people for reiterating statements.

didnt we already have a thread about this a couple of months back. And we decided that its a torpedo for some weapon that we haven't seen yet?

Hummmmm.... An air torpedo, maybe to shot down ghost ships?

Umm, it's ammo for that indecinary launcher thing. Some one proved it by pointing out the ammo indicator...

it cant be rockets or RPGs . . . you dont pick up 10 of those at one time!!!! you couldnt even carry ten of those(ten rpgs maybe, but if those are rockets then they are huge(based on the width to length ratio, and the assumption that a rocket will be at least three inches wide)) if they were rockets or rpgs. it is likely either something for the incindiary gun or maybe some sort of dart/torpedo thingy. and ten torpedos would be a lot too, so.....whatever.

Rocket - solid fuel propulsion system enclosed in a tube with a nozzle to direct and control the propulsion. often used to propel a warhead(such as a grenade in an RPG, or airborne "rocket"s, as well as "missiles"). not to be confused to the airborne term "rocket" which refers to a small unguided missile(like an rpg only more aerodynamic)

Missile - a guided warhead propelled by a solid fuel rocket.

RPG=Rocket Propelled Grenade, ie a grenade attached to a ROCKET, rocket propulsion. basically a cheapass missile that is small enough to be fired by one person(and carry multiple, as opposed to the anti-aircraft infantry missiles that are self-encased in the launcher).

Rocket Launcher - since there is no land-based military (esp infantry) weapon that is referred to as a "rocket" (there are airborn "rocket"'s and occasionally vehicular anti-air(obsolete i believe) "rocket"s), and the larger anti-air and anti-tank missiles are indeed missiles and referred to as such, the only possibility for a "rocket launcher" is that it is short for "rocket propelled grenade launcher".

Grenade Launcher - either mounted beneath a rifle (ie m16 + m203 or the prototypical XM-29) or a self-contained revolving chambered grenade launcher (or even Heckler and Koch's Grenade Machine Gun (GMG)), these fire 20-40mm grenades from a casing(like a large or shotgun shell) with a limited powder charge(not a solid fuel rocket) at an arc towards the target. only effective against entrenched/fortified infantry or unarmored transports.(with the exception of the GMG).

so, if you want to get picky, rpg is fine, rocket launcher is fine, but grenade launcher means something else entirely. but it really doesnt matter, because it is none of those.

and technically the rpg in hl isnt an rpg, its a missile(laser guidance). but its not a missile, cause its an rpg. but then again, this isnt operation flashpoint we're talking about, so who gives a flying ****.

every time i go into an in-depth explanation i point out at the end that it doesnt matter. really pisses me off.

BTW: http://www.hk-usa.com/pages/military-le/special applications/gmg.html its really awesome. a G M G.

hehe half-lifes never been about uber realism, i really dun think it matters :O

That gmg is awesome! And thanx for the thorough explanation. It doesn't matter if you can't carry that many, it's a common thing for FPS characters to carry alot of stuff at once. It's just accepted.

i just think that also for gameplay balances you will not be picking up 10 rpgs or torpedos at once (in one pickup unit, like how you get 17 rds from a glock clip and 50 from an m16 clip in hl)

Yeah, I noticed the dodging; in Coastline it specifically dodges the second shot. Looks really cool, it even does a little jink at the last second so that the rocketgrenade goes sailing past.

Nice one, Ailevation... :hmph:

indecinary

incindiary!!! Incindiary

it means 'Burning' I think, but I thought all the incindiary rifle had was flare shots that light people on fire. just cause he picks a torpedo (rocket) up in the tunnels vid doesnt mean thats the ammo type for the Incindiary rifle that he uses later.

I always thought it was incendiary...

Indecinary sounds rude... :E

Maybe the unidentified ammo is one of these infamous easter eggs?

if tha is the ammo of a extremely destructive rocket launcher?
maybe used to shoot down caza's?(combat airplane)
and maybe that destroy of one shoot the gunship

or if a very litle rocket used to compact rocket launchers?
that has sense
maybe for a litle rocket launcher
cuz we dont know what is the size of that rocket
or yes?

hmm. there's an idea. ^^this man has a brain in him, thats for sure^^

maybe a rocket pod thing (like those mounted on a helicopter, only this is adapted for infantry use) that launches 10 small rockets individually . . . and then you reload another ten. (of course, the aerial rockets are 2.75 inches by 4 feet, so theyd have to be a lot smaller)

wait, i found some 20x80 mm rockets . . . meh, it was a russian helicopter blueprint . . . in russian. everything else refers to some dumb pen and paper rpg. well they do exist that small, so it is quite possible for there to be a small shoulder-fired launcher in existence somewhere, even if it was scrapped before production due to ineffectiveness.

its possible, although i still think from that picture they would be pretty long if they were any type of solid fueled weapon.
