Today, we had our 'salute to the flag' thing. We are all supposed to stand up.

But, I was the only one standing up. I yelled at them and so about hlaf stood up but the others called me "stupid"

Whats wrong with people today? have they all lost their patriotic pride (translated)? What happened to the days where "Anti-Communism" and Military training were school subjects? What happened to the glorious days of nationalistic propaganda?

Anyway, I'm trying to say that the idiots are a cancer to our society, and I worry about the future of this nation.

Ah yes, the glory days of nationalistic propaganda. Sieg Heil indeed. :hmph:

There are a couple people like that in my school who will never stand for the national anthem or anything, but they're few and far between. They will if someone says "stand up" to them or something but they don't care at all is what it is.

But other than that everyone participates.

hmm...yeah i do find that even us Canadians don't show enough national pride.
as much as i hate to admit it, Canada Day almost felt like "just another day" because alot of places were surprisingly open today for business.

also i just didn't notice enough events and stuff going around the GTA (Greater Toronto Area for those wondering what GTA means) involving Canada Day celebrations.
anyway i hope this changes :|

Stand up, theres a bag of chips in it for ya

I think they called you stupid because you yelled at them.

National pride? I don't know about you, but I'm certainly not proud of my country (Britain) at all.

I think I'd only be proud of my country if I lived in Canada or France or Japan or something. You know, cool countries.

If there was any sense of patriotism in the UK, like a song or whatever, nobody, not one person would stand up, because nobody cares anymore.

The UK sucks and you know it.

Is that just YOU guys saying that? Or in the UK if your national anthem started playing would people stand, maybe recite/sing, etc?

Nope. Maybe if it was played in a church, all the old people would. But if someone drove a float through the streets playing the national anthem, waving the flag, everybody would be like 'WTF? Piss off!'

everyone can be proud of their nation.
except Germany tey have been pussynized in the last 60 years

That sucks :[ Sorry@UK for the decline of national pride.

Things change, I've seen more and more flags hangin' out of windows and on masts :) that's good, the people have to acquire at least some identity to get back to a better mood ... over the past 7 years or so people here got depressed and all, really made me sick... :hmph:

In the UK, people like to be patriotic towards England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland, but not many are towards the collective entity of Britain.

There's still a lot of national pride here, but it usually manifests itself in sporting events, like Football. Loads of cars had St. George's cross during Euro 2004.

Yeah, there is no such thing as patriotism in the UK anymore. Well appart from the over 70s purhaps...
EDIT: Yeah sorry I forgot about football and other sporting events... But thats not a love of our country if were honest is it... Its a hatered of everyone elses lol.. :(

I do love the UK to be honest. Its a great country (Its slowly going to the dogs..). But still, why the hell should I sing god save the queen. What has she done for me or my country?!

Nah, the UK is quite unique in this respect. We hate our government, we hate the alternative government and the vast majority of people hate other countrys. :p Oh and we hate our weather. ;)

I hate the goddamn queen.

Okay, basically most UK people have enormous national pride in themselves, but not in the government or the country as an international entity. We have a kind of perverse national pride...we're proud of how sucky our weather is and how bad our government is by BY DAMN WE'RE GOOD AT FOOTBALL! Supposedly.

Like Kirovman said...UK Pride = hate :p

Well when it comes to nations being aggressive against us, you can count on our populace to be patriotic in the time of need. And being overly nationalistic is a nuisance.

I think Australians love Australia. I love Australia. It's a great country with the suckiest goverment ever.

But i can't for the life of me see a better one anywhere (that is poised to take over). Think of one, yes. But i can't see anyone.

Australia is the most stupid thing the British Empire.

Yes...send all the convicts to the really nice place with the great climate, the beautiful beaches, the cool wildlife...nice one.

Yea, I bet the convicts really appreciated those whitedot spiders that melt your arms off... :D

I like my country, and if the national anthem plays, I generally respect it in whatever fashion the rest of the crowd is. I'd say that I have national pride, yes, but I don't allow politicians to blind me with it, by claiming their way is good for "true British people" or some such.

Maybe five people including me stand up during the Pledge of Allegiance in my history class. Depends on what kind of day it is. If it's a test day, no one stands up because there's a damn test and you can't go around making pledges that you've already made thousands of times if your grades can drop a few points. Those few points are precious.

first of all, don't you live in nk, how the **** is it you get anti-communist lessons.

I can't believe you're getting upset over someone not wanting to stand up and salute a flag. If they don't want to they shouldn't have to. They may not agree with everything the flag stands for.

I live in the sk. sk = not a communist country. nk = communist country.

#2. What have I done? I just posted it here to see how people would react and...... Well, it is a true story anyway.

I could swear there was a thread a while back, where you said you lived in nk, and blink confirmed it with your Ip, you said you smuggled sattelite dishes from china and thats the way you were able to get passed the great firewall.

He wouldn't be on the internet about games and having access to political data on the web if he was in NK.

um, no. What thread?

Well you were claiming to be from the DPRK before but anybody who would believe it needs to learn something about the human rights situation for those in the North of the Korean peninsula.

I was seeing if anyone would belive it. And some did...

The only place I don't stand for the national anthem is at school, because I'm usually doing more important work.

In the UK, we replaced national pride with a kind of weary cynicism. So far, it's working out pretty well.

Not standing up is an affirmation of what the flag really stands for. Soldiers are out fighting and dying not to force people to be patriotic in some stupid mindless flag worship mantra bullshit, but to be free to say "What the shit, I'm sitting down, I'm talking to so-and-so, you all can patrioticize youselves up the wazoo for all I care, it's a free country, and I'm sitting down.

I remember having to do the flag bullshit pledge shit during 9th grade, but towards the end of highschool nobody really cared. There were always the prize idiots whose idea of freedom was to force everybody to recite the pledge. (Seriously, if you can't see the problem with that you've got a bit of problem) I remember some dumbass substitute teacher who bitched me out because I didn't say the pledge in english, because I was so ****ing bored of it. I politely informed her that she was a dumbass and my refusal to partake in nationalistic bullshit was far more patriotic than forcing students to do something under the guise of patriotism.

In summary, the pledge makes me sick, it's stupid, meaningless and UN-patriotic.
