"Valve announced today that beta testing for the much-anticipated Counter-Strike: Source will commence later this summer."

if the beta is coming LATE summer , then i dont think hl2 will be released in the summer

"Later" may not mean late summer 2004. It might mean it will come later.

I already have HL2 preordered, I should get to play the beta without ordering CZ.

I'm pretty sure they never actually said CS:S will ship with HL2, they just said it will be free to anyone who buys HL2. So they're probably saying you buy HL2, later you download CS:S through Steam. No big deal

I doubt it. It's a cushion for our lost hope. Give one date to smear the other. Yawn. Predictable.

:flame: GRRR yeah release date isnt looking to good Im in fear of another push back from some of the new info coming out and Im a pretty optimistic person! :(

Valve should just release HL2 already, it seems that it's almost finished if not already done. The fans and the mod teams don't want to see the game postponed because of some ports of games we already have.

But Valve will have HL2 out before christmas regardless, otherwise they lose crucial holiday sales to their competitors, which is in essence shooting themselves in the foot.

ill cry if its not out by the end of summer :(
Better buy some kleenex then... I'm starting to get very doubtful we'll see HL2 before September 30th after the beta news.

It very well seems they wanna ship HL2 and ALL of the source conversion games at the same time. They may be done Half-life 2 but they are not done the source conversions.

I wish gabe woudl come here and tell us when its comeing out...

I'm thinking late September which really isn't too bad.. I can wait.

I hope they put out HL2 before ALL the source games, because it sounds like they haven't even started of DoD:Source.

can you imagine their sales if they release all ports and hl2 at the same time *** WOW ***

anyways i dont expect to see anything source until at least late sept (ie: 30th)

i am still predicting spet 1's since it is HOPEFULLY going gold in augest , plus ebgames and most other sites have it sept 1'st .

Well judging on what merc said about the game, i'd say August to late August is still gonna happen

Uh, or MAYBE! JUST MAYBE! HL2 will be coming out soon.
Take this, they aren't letting Vampire ship before HL2, why would they show off their source engine with CS:S Beta? Exactly.

Some people don't remember how Counterstrike is a free mod if you already have Halflife...it came later than Halflife right? Valve is probably planning the same thing for 2CS:S...Release Halflife 2 and then CS:S for free for those who have HL2

Can someone link to one of the Valve employees saying that they want the source ports to ship with HL2, I know I saw that somewhere.

"commence later this summer" that could mean a week or two from now. And that doesnt mean that HL2 wouldnt be released. And where did you get that quote?

good deal, methinks. Make it more worth it to me now after I bought CZ. BURRRRRRN, all ye who doubted the merits of CS:CZ(which, btw, at 1.2 is a funnnnn game.).

Well said. :naughty:
Now I can proudly ( ) say I bought CZ.

Even if you get a link why you believe anything Valve say?

I believed Gabe when he said Mr-Fusion is a douchebag.

But seriously, do people in general have to question VALVe's credibility?
They don't lie, they just over estimate.

And they only over-estimated once too. Talk about a loyal fanbase :p

You people can't read...
LATER this summer
not LATE summer...

gg i win

over-estimation

We'll add that to Doug Lombardi's book of marketing tricks and consumer brainwashing.

Lie - In the world of marketing we can't use the word lie. Consumers don't like being lied to and when you admit you lied they'll hate you even more. After lieing to my fanbase many times I needed a new word to explain myself. So one day i chose the phrase "over-estimation". Use it wisely and you too will be able to avoid harsh criticism.

Example.

Original statement - "The September 30th 2003 release date was a lie"

New statement - "The September 30th 2003 release date was an over-estimation"

or

Original statement - "The game will be released in summer"

New statement - "The game will be released in fall"

Even newer statement - "The game will be released in spring"

Extremely new statement - "The game will be released in winter"

As you can see each statement differs but because your consumers are aware of the "over-estimation" factor, you can say anything you want and they'll accept it. It's a revolution in marketing and i will be applauded for my discovery.

When it comes to release dates Valve has no credibility. That's only my opinion, i am only one deluded voice in a sea of voices. Ignore my opinon as it's only from a minority. A very small minority mind you.

Maybe you meant "diluted" - as in watered down or drowned out - as opposed to "diluded" - misspelling of deluded, meaning having been lied to?

Actually, when I write it out, it has a sort of poetic double-meaning to it ;)

No harsh feelings you understand

Later this summer can mean 2 things people:

Later as in Sept.

Or later as in a few weeks.

so dont go pointing fingers at people saying "you nub y00 can't read!" or "stfu you're retarded it means its never coming"

We dont f**king know!

Like always, VALVe released vauge information once again.

No, i meant deluded. Deluded derived from the word delusion. Implying that my viewpoint is warped.

valve definatley should not wait for css to be done to realease hl2

The Fact that they are shifting resources to work on a CS:Source Beta implies that Half-Life 2 is mostly complete.

I think that they should just worry about getting half-life 2 out the door.. dont they know how many gazillions of diehard fans are tearing out there hair

ok maybe im just psycho.... I want my hl2

how cheap can you get CZ for? btw why would valve release a beta of an add-on game that uses thier source engine, wouldn't that kinda be a step down from releasing HL2 or an HL2 demo?
