No...Counter-Strike: Source will lag as hell and Half-Life 2 will not even want to install.

Seriously, I think you get one of a hell of computer so don't worry

yo uknow hes only asking, hes justr trying to brag, lol, there's no point smart kid...

really ugly cases, except the second last one. thats not too bad

yeah i'd say get a GF 6XXX or an ATI 9XXX or X800 or so.. cause the GF FX5XXX just don't cut it..

Wont matter what computer youll buy right now if you want high fps. The game is not currently optimized so i doesnt matter. But of course it will matter later. So be patient and dont kill yourself when you realize that the fps staggers at 50-90fps because it will until the gamedevelopers release updates that makes the game smoother.

Dont kill the messenger if you aint gonna eat him!

I'm guessing it's his first purchase.

If you get a X800XT videocard you're all set for cs:s and hl2.

just get ready to add a few hundred to your total...
If you dont want to go for the x800 pci-e you could also get the special
Sapphire HYBRID Radeon x700 pro or xt pci-e w/ 256 mb GDDR3 memory and a bunch of nice other features. I dont think that the xt is out yet, but the pro is only 250$ at allstarshop.com, and the xt will prob be 300.

Ok, I'll break it down piece by piece. I build/repair comptuers for a hobby/part-time job, so yea, if that means anything to anyone.

Power Supply ( Standard Case Power Supply ) -- I am warning you, but crappy power supplies are the worst thing since acne. I have gone through a Enermax 350w (it simply burned out) and I am currently on an Allied 500w which can't stand the heat, causing the voltages to fluctuate greatly and thus my PC continuesly restarts when it is hot (no it isn't a case temperature or CPU temperature issue, I have plent of high CFM case fans cooling it down).

Processor ( [Socket-775] Intel® Pentium-4 Processor 540 [3.2GHz, 1MB Cache, 800MHz FSB, Hyper ThreadingReady] ) -- Thats fine for HL2/CS:S. AMDs are a better value but this will do fine.

Processor Cooling ( Certified CPU Fan and Heatsink + 2 Extra Case Fans ) -- Since you aren't overclocking, this is fine.

Motherboard ( Abit AG8 i915 Chipset w/LAN, 7.1 Sound, IEEE-1394, USB 2.0, PCI-E Motherboard ) -- Fine.

Memory ( 1024 MB Dual Channel [512MB X2] DDR-400 PC3200 Memory Module Geil or Major Brand ) -- Meh, major brand-name memory is overrated IMHO. I bought name-brand stuff and got screwed up the ass when I found out that a lot of cheapo stuff was performing the same or better than mine. It will perform fine for CSS/HL2 though....

Video Card ( [PCI-Express 16x] Nvidia Geforce 5750 256MB w/DVI + TV Out Video ) -- Well, I am assuming this is equivalent to a FX5700. 5700s should perform OK in CSS/HL2 on lower resolutions (1024 and under). If you bump up the resolution or use AA or AF a lot, you may want to look at the Nvidia 6800 series which is the best performance/value out there right now. Of course, that doesn't mean ATI's cards are slow, they are just too expensive for their performance IMHO.

Hard Drive ( [Special !!!] 160 GB HARD DRIVES [Serial-ATA] Maxtor 160 GB 7200 RPM SATA-150 8MB Cache Hard Drive ) -- Fine.

CD/DVD Drive ( 16x DVD-ROM Drive Green ) -- Fine.

CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive ( 52x32x52 CD-RW Drive Blue ) -- Fine.

Sound Card ( 3D Premium Surround Sound Onboard ) -- Some people hate onboard sound but Intel's latest chipsets use a pretty nice audio codec (Azalia from Cmedia) so I think onboard solutions in general are getting better. (side note : DFI is introducing the Azalia Cmedia codec to AMD motherboards too...)

Speaker System ( 600W PMPO 3 PCS Super Bass Subwoofer Speaker System ) -- Sounds cheap.... you might want to consider buying your own system for it instead. Look to systems like the Logitech Z-5300, Z-5500 (updated Z-680s).

Network Card ( 10/100 Network Onboard ) -- fine.

Floppy Drive ( None ) -- who needs one?

Monitor ( CRT Monitor ViewSonic 19" E90 .23H DPI Color Monitor [Beige] ) -- I am a big advocate for LCDs even though I don't have one. My friend has a Samsung 710T (12ms response, 600:1 contrast, 17") and it has ZERO ghosting. It rocks for gaming and everything. In reality, most CRTs are fine for gaming so this one is fine.

Flash Media Reader/Writer ( 6-In-1 Internal Flash Media Card Reader/Writer Beige ) -- I think it's useless, but whatever...

Case Lighting ( None ) -- Add your own later on, buy any stuff you need from www.svc.com

Case Round Cable ( None ) -- Round cables are useless if you know how to cable, so yea, no need to pay extra on these.

USB Port ( Build-in USB 2.0 Ports ) -- built-in.

IEEE-1394 Fire Wire Card ( None ) -- yea, you don't need one.

Operation System ( MS Windows XP Home Edition ) -- I prefer pro, but it is user preference.

Warranty ( Warranty Service Standard Warranty + 1-Year i-Care Deluxe On-site Service + 24/7 Phone Support ) -- 1 year. Thats fine.

Sub Total: $1,263.00 -- not bad considering this is a WHOLE system. I spent about $1400 on this desktop (just case + internal components) so yea. not bad.

Overall, its fine. The videocard seems a bit slow compared to the other components. The speakers seem a bit cheap/cheezy. Those are the only 2 components I would be concerned with. Otherwise I bet it'll do fine in HL2/CS:S

dont need x800xt when you dont want to spend alot of money on a graphics card, buy a 98** type they are getting cheaper every day it will work fine to.

Do not get PCI-E FFS! It has so many errors and performs so bad my friend.

Why don't u get an AMD 64 3200 S939? Its an overclocking machine and is alot cheaper than that Intel... Pretty much the same preformance as well and PCI-E is nothing right now... Just go AGP and u will be happier... PCI-E will take over in about 3 years...
