If it's ready they should publish it NOW, if they want more profits ;)

Is Paulie Shore still alive? I thought he suffocated in that giant bubble accident. hmm...

I think the best counter-argument to the November release date would be CZ, I was really surprised to see it coming out around the same time as HL2. Although, to weigh all things, those who have a limited budget for gaming would be holding out for HL2, and those with no limit to their gaming budget would just buy both whenever they come out. So I maintain that the most profitable thing to do is for HL2 to hit the market before Xmas. Apos made a good point as well

Or, you could consider that those two "could" corner the gaming market, somewhat. And, you could look at CZ as the test for Steam's optimization. VALVe said that Steam would be optimized during Late Oct. - Mid Nov. If CZ does well in Steam, we'll be seeing Hl2, shortly after.

OK kids,

You don't think Valve knows the ramifications of missing the holidays? Any idiot knows the best time to sell stuff is Xmas, the thing is, they don't need to worry about selling lots of HL2 cuz it will sell like crazy regardless.

alright some history and logic.

valve was created. Valve created half-life (not orignally called half-life)

valve was soppose to ship it, but they hated there game, so like most distributers try to do, said take 2-3 months fix it then ship it.

Valve said no, and completely started over. completely. and released a year later what you call half-life. a full year later.

now none of you cared cuase you didn't even know what half-life was, so the fact that it came a year later made no difference.

Now that hl is so popular, if this senior would repeat itself. you all wil be pissed cuase you thought it was going to come out when its not. Its quite possible valve doesn't like there game and wants to rework ALL of it.

You don't rework a game that took 5 years to build Quotidian...you'll be a thief of your own wallet....

no saltpeter, i disagree. You could finish a spectacular game in 5 years. then decide to completely remake all the levels, cuase the game didn't play through to your expectations

They do not have any expectations of the game since they built it. They can only have expectations on the sales of the game.

Because Valve has invested lots of money into this project it would be a very dumb move to rework the high detailed maps and spend even more money. These maps aren't exactly HL1 standard you know...this is a few levels beyond that.

How do they not have expectations of there own game? Do you have expectations of food before you bite it? or a movie before you see it? How about artwork you start to draw? i hold myself to standards, so does valve.

yes, and this is gabes dream. They will get their money left or right, doesn't matter. But the fact is they want a game that reflects there upmost efforts and are proud to say its there's. thats just how valve is.

This is about artwork that has already been done yet. How the hell could you still have expectations of it then? The only type of expectation you could then have, is the kind you think of what other people think about it. Which is exactly what Valve is currently wondering.

no your wrong, expectation of HOW THE GAME PLAYS, do you understand that most of the art/characters/buildings are prefabs and textures? it takes 4 click to load another prefab/texture less if you have hot keys. I AM TALKING ABOUT LEVEL DESIGN THE WAY THE GAME PLAYS AND FEELS. which MAKES THE GAME. you seem to think that the textures make the game.

The original Half-Life was a completely different case. There's a reason they ended up with an unsatisfactory product, and there's a reason the HL2 development process is a different matter.

You can go read some articles on it.

yeah different reasons? hows this change that the final product COULD be unsatisfactory to valves expectations on how it should play through and tell the story?.
oh thats cuase it doesn't. useless.

Sure, then the final product of ANY developer may be unsatisfactory to them. The Doom 3 final product may be unsatisfactory and could cause a delay into Dec 2004. If if if. What's your point?

I knew what it was. I have the first Half-life article, from the sweet summer of 1997. And I doubt VALVe would even consider re-working a game that is fiver years in the making, and completed. You'll see it, next month, accept it.

I wish it was done and distributed by next month.

But that is kinda a long shot.

You seem to have forgotten about that fact that Valve playtests the game..
