Today... 9/13/04.... in less than 10 days they are going from gold to shelf.... Thats pretty impressive. I think this further shows that if valve goes gold on the 15 or 16th... or hell even the 20th! It could still be out this month.

Think of it all this way:

They dont want to come out in november...
Halflife1 did the same thing...
Valve is REALLY pushing preloads UP UP UP!
(http://www.hardocp.com/ on lower page for 9/13/04)
The release canidate could already be in VUs hands.
Talk of the QA book.

Too many factors all leading up to one thing- THE END!

It will be more than 10 days. As much as Rome: Total War is being hyped, it pales in the comparision of Doom 3 and HL2. I personally would use Doom 3 gold time (of three weeks) to determine how long HL2 will be gold before it is released.

But isn't RTW release only a US release at first?

HL2 is a world wide release.

Think of how much Half-Life 2 is a bigger game and there is different type of packages, such as Single-player package, and SP and Multi-Player package, Collector's Edition, Counter-Strike by itself and buying through Steam (and yet, at least 2 more pre-loads to go). Its a lot more work than Rome: Total War. Also Half-Life 2 is world-wide release, not America only.

i wouldn't set myseff for disappointment....again...lol im happy with nov

EDIT: yup the Rome TW is US release date

When valve sas a world wide release... they could be reffering to steam you know. They still consider steam to be the same as in the box. They could be releaseing boxed editions for america and then steamed editions every where else untill they make the box copy.

*more money to valve- Although deserved money to them, i think steam is a great idea. I wish they could send you a hard copy after you buy it on their though*

don't assume VU doesn't have their finger in the pie on this one...we don't know their contract terms

I don't think we should compare HL2s gold-release date period to any other game. It wouldn't really give us any good indication of how long that date period really will be.

As for R:TW, finally something new to play while I wait for HL2. God, I hope HL2 stays delayed for a bit longer so I can really get through R:TW.

Well the main thing it's preloading, which means it must be finished. Lets hope the boxed copies come to Europe shortly after America...

Nope, its "World-wide release." Like it says. ;)

Its not finished, they have given the files which aren't likely to change.

The parts of the game that won't change no matter what are finished. Music/models/textures etc. Other things may still change if the publisher wants a new RC.

Nah i think one of the reasons piracy was rampant at dooms launch was because everyone in europe etc etc wanted it so then stole it. And i would guess most of them did'nt like it(don't turn this into a d3 vs hl2 thread) so then never bought it.

And anyway i would be disconnecting from the internet if ze americans got it first :p

Actually what the hell am I saying :p I would buy it from steam.

umm where have you been? Hl2 will be released in 2 packages: Hl2 WITH CS:source and HL2 collectors edition

When I said Multi-player package, I already expected you to know that CS: Source comes with it. And there will be a single-player only package aswell.

i dont care about hl2 anymore, ill play sims.
whether i get hl2 or not, 1 thing is sure, ill dl it before ill buy it.

No there won't be single player packages and multiplayer packages, Valve said so since there was no Sierra and thats a long time ago

And thus ends my need for HL2.

I will buy it, i will still look forward to it.

but when RTW was first announced over a year ago i was thinking HL2 would be a nice time waster, something to keep me going.

Oh how wrong i was...

Its a US release and itll be in the UK/EU as soon as the ships can get it there.

I was under the impression that there were some CD Manufacturing facilities in Europe.

He thinks "shipping" a game actually means delivering by ship...

Just download the preloads from steam and as soon as its released everyone will have the game. No matter where your from as long as you have inet then you'll have it as a 0hr release.

The wonders of steam!

ill just wait for the box and cd :) I want those hehe

I heard that it shall be a world wide release, they probably conisder getting all the copies where they are wanted part of the preperation process. Maybe..

I'm also waiting with great anticipation for Rome: Total War. It looks kickass, and much more intelligent than the Blizzard crap like Warcraft, Starcraft and the upcoming EA-game Battle for Middle-earth!

Dont diss warcraft, just because it looks cartoony doesn't mean it's crap, try it, its just as good as any other RTS.

RTW will tide me over til HL2 comes, now im happy... i just got to find £30 from somewhere to buy it :(

Yes but most games are created in one country and subsequently shipped to the rest.

"He thinks "shipping" a game actually means delivering by ship..."

That is sometimes part of the process smartass.

I hope Valve is smart enough to burn the copies in more than 1 location. THAT if anything would speed up the waiting time... It can't be too hard to get Vivendi to burn copies in different countries. Maybe the U.S. could burn their copies & Europe/countries in Europe could burn theirs separately.

That would explain the long waiting period. Why do they have to be so stupid? :) (not above poster, shipping companies)

Yes, because we all know that retail CDs are burned.. the publishers have whole aircraft hangars full of PCs with burners in them and 10,000 people just sitting there and not doing anything but burn CDs all day... :upstare:

CDs aren't burned they are manufactured using an injection molding process which you can read more about at http://www.oasiscd.com/cdrom/INTRO_injection_molding.html

Here's something that makes more sense than the "Games are sent by ship theory", it could be the time it takes to approve a localised version of a game. The localised versions also have to be approved by a publisher and tested. This could add a few days onto the time it takes to get the game out. Doom 3 was 10 days later in the UK than the US because UK games are always released on a Friday. If it took an extra 4 days to approve the UK version of Doom 3 then it would've missed a Friday, and would've had to come out the folllowing Friday.

The developers who make R:TW are a UK based company anyway.

Silly me.

Edit: Thanks Feath. You learn something new every day :D
Edit2: I still doubt this method is forced to be used in only one spot though. So my idea still holds. YES! ;)

Wow.... give it up people, the game will not make a September release. October if you're extremely lucky, probably November. I have been telling people this since about May.

Because of the worldwide release date, HL2 will probably take at least 2-3 weeks to manufacture and ship out. Because September ends in just under two weeks, I sincerly doubt HL2 will be coming out this month. Unless, of course, HL2 goes gold very, very soon, but I doubt it.

Ok looks like we are gonna be waiting till october then :p
