mine would probably have a far cry setting(in the ocean) and gordon got moved to a secret underwater testing facilitywhere they experiment with bio-engineered animals(this would all take place before hl1)This mod would explain how gordon got so good with guns!
 
You have a good idea but it could use a few changes. I have inserted the changes

I already have my idea... It's semi-typed up.

Oh, which reminds me, if anyone would like to do some early concept art for me I'd be happy to start up with that. (I haven't set up a site or anything yet, that's for the future... Gotta finalize the idea and brainstorm with other people, so I have an exact plan of everything, or well, an "exact foundation").

Anyway, I can't reveal my mod idea here, but it's far more original then "Aliens have invaded the planet, kill kill kill!!", or CTF... It's *completely* original.

Oh well, I know, lost of babbel, but this will be an interesting thread.

Edit: Mine would have nothing at all to do with Gordon, and it wouldn't be singleplayer...
 
Mine would be an alternative future were the Nazi's have taken over Europe and is still fighting the USA after 22 years. Most of Russia has been taken over, and during the War, they have embraced Democracy. USA is sending supplies to Eastern Russia, one item which is a briefcase nuke. Your job as a Russian, American or a Chinese soldier is to distract the opposing force to allow the safe transport of this device to the heart of the German war machine, Stalingrad. This will only slower progress of the German Advancement.
 
i want gordon to be a captain of a spaceship(like han solo in star wars) and he could like trade with other races and smuggle stuff to other planets.i would through some rpg style elemnts in there 2
 
A sword and sorcery. A decent one, with a singleplayer campaign - With a good storyline. Make it semi D&D ish (Though you'd always hit if you actually got the hit, no dice. I'd rather base it on player skill then character skill.)

Along with the SP, I'd want a good multiplayer mode. Gametypes like a longterm siege, or a head on battle, etc...

It could use a weapon system something like CS, only it would be harder to get the good weapons (So you'd be playing a map for a halfhour before anyone got the Mystic Enchanted Runeblade of Headbashingin.)

Also, a good level system. For instance:

You'd have an overall level (Max of, say, 50). Each time you leveled you'd get X stat points to spend on stats (str, agi, int, end(urance))

Strength would control your damage with melee weapons (And to a small point, ranged weapons), and add to your HP.

Agility would control your damage with ranged weapons, and your move speed.

Intelligence would control mana, lower spell costs, and decrease the learn time of spells (See below).

Spell/ability system:

Along with your main weapon and secondary weapon (Sword and a dagger, etc) you'd also have a spell slot, in which you would be able to equip any of the spells you knew (Or an item that cast a spell, like a Ring of Fireball or something).

To learn spells, you would equip a spell you didnt know (You wouldnt be able to use it) and over time, as you gained EXP, your character would learn the spell. Once the spell reaches level 1 you could use it. If you leave the spell equiped, it continues to level up as you use it.

It would use a spell system something like Diablo 2 (Requiring that some spells be learned before others).

@Halflife... Sounds like an idea, but would you have yourself go off the ship onto the planets and find merchants or let them "meet you" at the dock?

Ah yes... You probably need to develop the game a bit more. But the basics does sound like it could turn out to something enjoyable. Why would it take time to get the "Enchanted Runeblade" ? Doesn't really make sense... Things like that makes it sound, well, wrong.

An EXP system overall isn't such a bad idea. But what will you do when you die? Will you lose experience in order to respawn, will more exp ("power") enable you to further enhance your spawning territory? ... Stuff like that?

You need to, well, go a bit deeper, I can't even brainstorm correctly.
 
have yourself go and find the merchants. if u want u could also rent apartments to stay a bit longer and sell stuff to the citizens
 
i might just turn my idea into an actual mod! Would u guys play it if i did?
 
i'd create a cyberpunk themed mod ...something like Bladerunner with tons of atmosphere and a dystopian setting

Dude, that sounds amazing. But would you have several solar systems? Or just one with like 7 planets or what? The game would become quite large if you'd want several planets boardable. But you could design each of them as a seperate map. So maybe 5 solar systems (Different dangers in each) with 5-10 planets in each of them. And you could go warp between them with either gates (See games and movies) or warp-drive. Having a warpdrive (Which you could possibly buy somewhere or several places) onboard your ship would enable you to get to warp anywhere on the map without having to get to a gate first.

Do you like my "brainstorming" or not? Cuz I can stop if I'm getting on ya.

Edit: Yea, I would play it saying it's on a scale I'd want. I wouldn't like it if it was 3 planets which are more or less "dead" (NPCs standing around, doing nothing. A guy walking but looking like he's emotionally dead... etc).
 
I'd make an Alien mod. I hope someone does it with Doom 3
 
actually i was thinking the mod could take place in a sector of a galexy called sector-5.In the sector there would be 15 solar systems each with 9 planets.And instead of warping u could customize ur ship with lazers and rocket engines with the money u earn. and ur brain storming is helping me with my ideas. THANKS!!!!!
 
A cross between red alert 2 and natural selection, so natural selection with red alert 2 stuff, being outside and able to drive vehicles that the commander builds etc.
 
I would make a cyber punk mod also. It would be a total conversion though. It would be mostly based off of Shadowrun, where you can buy vehicles and weapons, then mod your weapons and then even make mods to your body. If anyone isnt familiar with shadow run, there are cool things you can mod your body with (its called cyberware). You can basically have a harddrive in your brain, then use a video camera implanted in your eye to record video, a mic in your ear for sound, you could have enhanced vision and all that good stuff.

I think having a customizable character makes game much more personal and have way more replay value. Add in some politics, moral choices, and decent plot with obligatory twists and the mod would be golden. Note, my idea isnt copyrighted so feel free to make this mod for me :)
 
Well... You need to think "space travel", by the time we get there (Edit: SPACE AGE... Should added that in...), saying you play a human (For gameplay reasons I say you are) you shouldn't only be able to buy "ROCKET ENGINES". And lazers aren't always your prefered weapon.

It would also be highly unlikely all 15 solar systems would have 9 planets each. One might have just 4 while another one would have 10-15. You should also add uninhabbited planets, I mean think our solar system, venus would never be a place to make an outpost on, most other planets would be possible to set something up on (Maybe not a major city on all of them). And "Sector-5" sounds kind of gay. You/We should also create a background story for the whole sector...

I have an idea for a mod which I'm planning to write in a fan fic. Sadly... I don't have a clue how to mod... oh well... a man can dream though... a man can dream...

I'm not a professional modmaker yet, btw... I'm a good storyteller and I'm EXCELLENT at brainstorming. Mainly because I love it.

I would however like to be the one holding all the strings in a modteam, doing the news every day, keeping the site up to date, being main admin on a mod's forum, etc. (All those in one). It would suit me well, apart from me being from Sweden so I'm on a 6h shift from Americans.. :/ but it's okay with European ppl and UK.

Well, I plan to make some short-films (prolly will help in getting to know the editor really well), a short-and-sweet, singleplayer, horror mod (use mostly Valve's models/textures so I can do it on my own), and some miscellaneous multiplayer stuff... haven't decided yet. :)
