If you could build your monster PC

if you had a million dollars to spend what would be your comps specs? lol and dont say you would spend it all on research for a quantum computer lol

IF money wasn't an object:
Quadruple Pentium 4 3.06 Ghz CPU's, 3 sticks of 1GB Ram, Radeon 9800 Pro 256 MB ram, Creative Labs Exitgy and a Samsung 955DF 19" monitor. And an optical mouse, really cool keyboard and 2 speakers.

You want to explain to me how you could use 4 3.06's? Or even 2? And why not 4 3.2ghz...

MSI K8D

2 x Opteron 246

2GB Crucial PC-2700 (registered, of course)

ATi 9800 Pro 256MB

Iwaki Pump > Chevette Heatercore > Y-Fitting > Cascade x 2 > Y-Fitting > D-Tek GPU block > D-Tek chipset block all through Tygon

4 x 37GB Western Digital Raptors through 2 RAID 1 setups.

Antec TRUE Power 550W

All inside a beautiful black Lian Li PC-70

Xaser case
Vantec airflow
Pentium 4 3.20 Ghz
1024 Kingston Ram
ATI Radeon 9800 256 MB
T1 Line
Soundblaster Audigy 2
Dolby Surround Sound Speakers.
64" FPD monitor/tv (connected)
And a bunch of other expensive shit.

Money was an object and I have my dream comp, but there are things I wouldn't mind having, like a scanner/printer/copy machine combo, largest speaker set available, maybe another 5 or 6 copies of my exact comp, and have lan parties in my room.

The Xaser cases are a waste. You spelled Aeroflow wrong. Kingston RAM is much worse than Mushkin Level 2 Black. I'd rather have an OC-192 line than T1.

The only good mushkin lvl 2 black RAM is PC3500, and you wont be buying that with a 3.2 P4.

It's always good. The fast timings make it excellent. Why wouldn't you get that with a P4 3.2?

Im down with that. ankalar has the right idea.

why would you get a 19inch monitor?

They have 60 inch ones.

60 inch monitor
thx theater speakers
a nice lazyboy chair with a keyboard and mouse thing that swings over.
3200X2 athlon64fx
windows64
4X1gb of pc4000 ram
radeon9800XT 256

and whatever else top of the line

A bit controversial but if I had a million i'd port HL2 over to a Dual 2Ghz G5 Apple, then we'd be talking performance. Unfortunately we'll have to make do with Windows. Never mind.

PC for Play/Mac for Work

spoken by someones whos never really used one. And don't say you have, cause anyone that has wouldn't have that narrow mined opinion. PC's are great, at games they rock. But in computing/OS terms we're talking Fords and Ferrari's.

I didn't want this to become a Mac flame session. I'm in this forum because I'm a PC user. I just happen to use my mac 90% of the time rather than the PC.

I'd rather build a LAN of good PC's than spend thousands on a single machine that performs marginally better in HL2.

For that reason..

Athlon XP 2500+ @ 3200+
1GB DDR400
Any nForce2 Motherboard
Radeon 9800 pro 128MB
80GB HDD Samsung

All that x 20 or so and make a LAN for HL2.

Could you not see i was joking?

You need to take a pill.

Vapochill Case - mmm sub-zero CPU core temps
Seperate Water cooling system just for GPU, Mobo, and custom memory waterblocks

P4 3.2ghz HT @ 4+Ghz
2gig 800mhz Rambus
Twin 73gb SCSI 15k RPM HD's
Radeon 9800Pro 256mb - clocked as well
Asus P4P800 Deluxe Mobo - doesnt support rambus, but too lazy to look for one that does.

All other parts are minor.

Aside from the fact I AM building a reasonable "monster" PC, things I would change are:

4 1GB sticks Corsair XMS DDR400 PC3200
Intel Chipset 875P
4 SATA 200GB HDs with RAID 0
A 256MB Radeon 9800 instead of 128

But otherwise, my config is great.

Intel P4 3.2Ghz
865P chipset (Asus)
120GB SATA maxtor HD
ThermalTake Xaser III Case
SBlaster Audigy2 Platinum eX
Radeon 9800 Pro 128 (or the new 9900)
1GB Corsair XMS DDR400 PC3200
Samsung SM352 DVD 16x + CD-RW 52x24x52 Combo Drive

And only for $2382 :D

Put all of yours together, and double it.
Thats mine.

Thats canadian money im guessing?

Nobody likes Opterons or Xeons? Shame you all would get 7.2k SATA hard drives, Corsair RAM, and Xaser cases.
