If you could had the opportunity...

Anyone who says nine inch nails, why?

You're selfish, the fact is most people would hate it, wouldn't be able to connect with it. I don't even think it's worth a penny myself. The lryics are pathetic and what I really hate is how they have pictures of the holocaust in the background when they play live, as if their lyrics are too rubbish so they need to scrounge the sadness out of something like that. Using such footage for a commercial purpose like that, it makes my opinion of them so much lower.

NIN are really pretty awful imo.

You almost certainly haven't heard enough NIN to be able to justify making that sort of judgement.

Pff, sticking up for yourself? SELFISH. Omg.

Also... on third thought, something by Primus. They'll ****ing like it or I'll impale them on Les' bass horn.

Yeah, just got their back catalog. Gooood shit.

It'd have to be Sailing the Seas of Cheese by Primus; it's by far their most 'open' album for people to get into. Mainly because it contains a good few singles/well known songs, but even so, I still think it's the most accesable.

I'd say so too. It's quickly becoming my favourite behind Frizzle Fry, and after that Tales From the Punchbowl, which was a little bit harder to get into.

Coincidentally, I just played a friend a couple of tracks from Cheese and both were met with a pretty warm reception. Didn't expect said friend's music tastes to branch out quite that far, so I was pleasantly surprised tbh :D

Everyone think Tales is one of Primus' worst (behind Antipop) but I believe it's one of their best. I love that album, although when I first bought it I thought I'd wasted my money.

Solaris, I'm going to tie you down and make you listen to every single NIN release from 1988-2007.

I must admit, half the lyrics on The Fragile make me cringe.

He has some songs where you kind of feel ":|, these lyrics are just a tad overboard angsty but damn the music and energy is so good that it compensates", but not most of them!

Really naive thing to say when you havent done your research.

As a metal fan it's pretty hard to pick an album where there would even be a point getting other people to listen to it, since most of the uninitiated would switch off instantly.

Having said that, I think there are a few obscure gems which have an appeal that is appreciable by anyone with good taste, not just dyed in the wool metal fans.

Of those, I'd pick:

DRUDKH - Blood In Our Wells

Awesome album. Hazy, folky, uplifting, hypnotic, mid-paced black metal with vocals taking a bit of a back seat. 'When the Flame Turns to Ashes' has to be one of the greatest songs ever recorded.

"No, You Don't" is the worst offender IMO :p

But songs like "I'm Looking Forward to Joining You, Finally" definitely make up for it.

I really prefer 10,000 Days to any other Tool album.

Why do people not reckon Opiate's the best Tool album, there new stuff is too modernised (yet good) imo.

Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality would be my choice.
Paranoid would be slightly better imo.

Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
I'll never know what's so great about NIN

Pink Floyd - Dark side of the Moon

Not exactly my personal favorite but I do consider it one of the best albums of all time.
I concur, but I dunno doesn't really have any messages in it to aid the world.

piper at the gates of dawn by pink floyd
It's abstract, probably the most psyched out album ever made and incredibly entertaining (definetly one of my top 5 favourite albums) but lyric wise it's not really that great, no messages that the world needs to hear.

I have no idea what single album I'd choose. I'd probably make everyone listen to some crappy dragonforce album just to give everyone the shits.

I have no idea why so many people like 10k days and how Tool is so big these days. I would've thought it'd have been the opposite and they'd be huge in the 90's and slowly fade away into obscurity with their boring prog rock albums in the 2000's...

The answer is kind of in the question there...

Fleetwood Mac - Rumours

By far the best choice, imo

Right I'll download a NIN album.
But only 1!

Reccomend!

WAIT SOLARIS! The Downward Spiral is the most difficult one to get into (barring, in some cases, Broken), ESPECIALLY if you're not already a NIN fan.

With_Teeth is his most mainstream release. Most people hate it, it's pretty poppy and takes a more straightforward rock/electronica bent. I enjoy it though, it has some great songs (particularly the first and last).

The Fragile is a really epic and powerful double album. Lots of overly loud guitars and drums (not a bad thing), often lyrically-inept, but has lots of cool songs. Probably his most musically-varied album, which is why it's my second-favourite.

The Downward Spiral is pretty industrial and very loud. It's a work of genius IMO, but it definitely takes some work to get into. I downloaded it a year ago after buying and loving W_T (first NIN album for me), and it took a good six listens before I started liking it.

Broken is a loud-guitar EP. I feel it's his weakest release.

Pretty Hate Machine is his oldest record. Very beat-oriented. Overall it's a middling and average record, with the first half being very good and far exceeding the second, less good half.

I think... as long as you promise to listen through an entire album, and not just the first two songs before tossing it... I'd say download The Fragile. You'll probably really like La Mer, The Great Below, The Day the World Went Away, and Into the Void, and I bet you'll absolutely loathe the opening and closing tracks (Somewhat Damaged and Ripe [With Decay], respectively) :p

Or just go with With_Teeth, which you'd probably end up liking more easily, but it's really not a very good cross-section of NIN.

It just depends what youre into. Love metal? Check out Broken and Downward Spiral.
Beat-oriented electronic music? Pretty Hate Machine.
Epic soundscapes, wide variety of music, from soft to heavy? The Fragile.
Raw band-sounding album which is more song-oriented? With Teeth.

I change what I said to R.E.M. - Out of time

If there is a better chill out album I WILL eat my hat.

If anyones heard it please discuss it with me.

Pretty good album, Losing my religion is REMs best song imo and probably one of the top 10 songs ever made, but i consider Automatic for the people, Reckoning and especially Murmur to vastly superior albums...

Either way REM=win.

Explosions in the Sky- Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever

It'd solve all our problems :D

But only after a few replays so they could get into it ;)

I was about to pick an Explosions album, but honestly I couldn't pick between Those Who Tell The Truth and The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place. They're both so good... like meh chillens... I can't pick just one <_< >_>

Guns n Roses - Use your Illusion (I & II, its a double album, you know)

U2 - Joshua Tree.

Being recently voted and recognised as the best band of all time says something. Hell, they were around in the 70s for heavens sake.

Both are amazing albums. My preference is for The Earth because its the only thing that puts my mind at ease at night and lets me fall asleep within 15 minutes (as opposed to 1+ hour)

The Earth is a way chillier and more cohesive album (or EP), really easy to listen through. Those Who Tell the Truth is more powerful though I think.

I've been listening to All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone lately, and it's pretty good aswell, but I'm not convinced it's on the same level as the other two yet.

How Strange, Innocence doesn't count. Even the band say so :p

Also, **** U2.
