If you guys go a major concert like a metal concert, do you wear ear plugs?

Oh, it's not the songs. It's that they got rid of her for stupid reasons.

Stopped reading after "Nightwish suck", since that is all I want to hear from anyone.

Well, apparently she and her husband became more interested in making money than making music, and that her attitude towards the band had changed for the worse. If that's true, I would have to agree with the rest of Nightwish in that she didn't belong there anymore.

define stupid.

if they hadn't replaced her, the band might have disbanded due to stupid reasons.

I heard the exact opposite from a few places.

I've been to 3 concerts, and I only wore earplugs for the first one. I was in the front each time, but I'm a drummer, and I hit very hard, so I was used to the extremely loud noises. If you use the noise canceling ear plugs (The ones that cost about 10 bucks, but are well worth it... till you lose them...) then it's very enjoyable. Don't worry, I see a lot of people with earplugs at concerts, and I think it's a good idea... If you like being able to hear anyways. i say, if you ever want to hear the music again, use the ear plugs.

Pick a type of music that isn't defined by how loud a noise it can make :shh:

It would be advisable. I've already got noticable hearing damage from six months of riding motorbikes without earplugs, which is about 90-110db at speed. After a long ride I can barely hear anything over the ringing of my ears.
Concerts are typically anywhere from 110-150db.
If it's just a once off then who cares maybe - but one time is enough to cause permanent damage.

You can always just stay farther back if you want to feel more comfortable.

I play the drums so I have to wear earplugs when I play..I would recommend bringing earplugs if you care about your hearing, but if you care more about looking cool and or badass then just leave them behind.

Aye, wear ear plugs, but you should go hunt for some really nice onces that are also unnoticeable (Lots of people wear ear plugs that you can't see to concerts, and most musicians have some form of ear protection now-a-days while they play). A good set of ear plugs are comfortable, unnoticeable, and they only quiet down the sound (Like turning down the volume), they don't reduce the quality in anyway. (Actually, it really makes everything clearer).

You can find nice pairs at about 20-30$. Oh, and like someone said before, I wouldn't wear them to open-air concerts (But you'd still get perm. ear damage.)

I hate those things, you have to stick them half way into your brain to get any sound.
That's the whole point... It plugs up your ears to block outside noises effectively and give you the best bass-response.

Fair enough that you don't like how they feel, but you haven't tried them all so you shouldn't pass judgement so quickly. Also, it could be just that you need to get used to them.

I'm talking about in-ear canal phones, not "buds".

If that's what you meant, please re-read my post and be satisfied.

That sir, is what she said.

Earmuff headphones > earbuds.

I know, I'm a drummer, and I've tried the most expencive earbuds vs $20 earmuffs and the earmuffs are better.

Btw, the earbuds cost $100 and had foamies on them. They were noisy as hell, and by that I mean I felt like the sound was being played through a phone line. This is the same effect with all the earbuds I've tried. I'm always looking for some great headphones to make my playing experiance better, but earm, uff headphones sound the best. least from my experiance. Also, play games with the earmuff headphones. You hear a lot more stuff than with speakers, and the stuff you always hear sounds more realistic. Get some Bose earmuffs and play Half-Life. You will love it. Who needs a subwufer? :p

Also, KOSS is really good. Get some KOSS earmuffs, and you get a great experience. You can get some Great $20 KOSS earmuffs at WAL-MART. AND THERE WILL BE NO "WAL-MART = TEH DEVIL" DEBATES!(Stay away from Panasonic. Those ones fall apart. I've had 3 different pair of their "DJ" headphones, and the same thing on em broke each time... Stay away from Panasonic.)

Btw, I have no idea how this convo got to Earbuds from earplugs...

I wear a blindfold to the cinema.

It's more a matter of wearing a blindfold while looking at a nuclear bomb.

Only if you voluntarily pay go to watch nuclear bombs exploding.

It's more like allowing yourself to blink at the cinema so your eyeballs don't dry up and crawl away.

Ok blindfold was exaggerating :p
It's like wearing sunglasses at the cinema.

I don't see why people think it's stupid... musicians often THEMSELVES wear earplugs so they don't damage their own hearing. it doesn't affect your ability to hear and appreciate the music, it just drops the decibel level evenly.

The musicians do it for a living..

Yet it only takes a few seconds to ruin your hearing.

Bingo.

It's a poor argument to say, "Well I only go to a loud blaring concert once a year, so... it doesn't affect me."

Concerts that are loud are generally in the 120 or so Decibel range. How high does it need to be to sustain permanent hearing loss?

85.

The threshold when you actually start feeling pain in the ears is 130.

For the ignorant here draw your comparisons from this chart.

Another interesting fact:

The incidence of hearing loss in classical musicians has been estimated at 4-43%, in rock musicians 13-30%.

Probably because rock musicians wear earplugs.

Nah classical musicians just want to be like Beethoven.

For the ignorant here draw your camparisons from this chart.

Another interesting fact:

I'd be really surprised if the percentage is as low as that. Most people these days have hearing loss as a matter of course, just from listening to MP3 players and so on.

That chart kinda brings it home though - I'm gonna make sure I find some earplugs that fit properly under a helmet from now on. Sound of a motorcycle 100db - I can't even hear the engine above 80mph, it's completely drowned out by the roar of the wind.
Above 30mph or so, if I've got a passenger I can't hear anything they say, even when they're shouting.

Do nightwish have a new singer? I remember not so long agow they kicked the tart out the band for being a silly bitch!

Yeah. She's a much more conventional singer - reminds me of the woman from Evanescence actually. The new album has a very different sound to it, but it has some amazing songs. Amaranth in particular.

In the event that I can't find my earplugs, wet toilet tissue works fairly well at dampening the noise. (<--C wut I did thar??)

use attenuators,

they dont block the sound out they reduce its volume so u dont **** ur ears up,

hearing = more important than looking odd, tho tbh u coudl probably get some non obvious ones or wear a hat or something
