all that happened before this program came out. to give you an example, i can see every single file in the CS:S cache

The files themselves are still encrypted. You can see their name, but that's it. Think of it like a password-protected zip-file. You can open it and see the files, but before you can use the contents you need the password.

Edit: I just finished preloading and it seems the CS:S beta is not encrypted... you can listen to the soundfiles for example. I hope they use strong encryption for the HL2-Preload.
