If you were to create a FPS what would it be like?

Lesse, I would like a semi-realistic, maybe sorta in the now. Like 1-5 shots to waste somebody. Single headshot killing, taking more shots if your ripping somebodys arm off with an assault rifle. Sick damage modeling like SoF. If that could be combined with some sweet physics, hoohah.

Full, nice physics on-line. Some other sick features would be...

You can get knocked down and off your feet (Psi-Ops actually did that pretty good, but this is an FPS) You obviously take more damage if you smack against something hard or fall.

Depending where you get hit, it messes you up. If you get nailed in the leg you kinda limp around, other leg you're even slower. Arm your aim is borked over and stuff like that.

Nice set of weapons, RvS kind of deal.

No stupid aiming system like CS, I'd like no crosshair, and you can use ironsights. Make it so it's more about being able to control the gun rather than spraying, CS bullets just shoot out from the gun at impossible angles, bullets (for the most part) come out straight, the gun should jerk around and thats where the shot should go.

Minimal hud, maybe showing damage and how many clips you got left.

Movement! You can sprint around, do it too long and you get winded. Crouching, prone, leaning. Maybe even a dive for cover type thing.

All of course on a spiffy engine FOR MAX POLYGONZ + VISUALS. Time changing would be awesome. Blowing out lights indoors, hide in teh shadows.

In a perfect world it be would all balanced and sick and awesome and would be the greatest FPS of all time and dear god I want it.

Total visual realism, with context-sensitive AI and fully interactive environments. (Light switches, functioning TVs, microwaves, etc.)
Also, a combination of Deus Ex and Half-life based on a hud-less inventory system I have in my head.

Luckilly, that inventory system should appear in Cause And Effect mod.[/Shameless Plug] :p

Well, I think my game would have to be MP focused. No Counterstrike\Battlefield style gameplay, when I think of MP deathmatch Quake\Doom style gaming is where it's at in my opinion. With that being said:

-Refined and tweaked engine, breaking the current graphical capabilites. So it would be a next-gen game basically. It would differentiate from the SP engine a bit.

-Refined physics engine. Rocket jumping, Grenade jumping, Plasmaclimbing, Strafe jumping, and bunny hopping would be supported. Ex. splash damage from a rocket would launch you about 8 or so feet in the air, and with Plasmaclimbing you'd continue to climb the wall simply until you stop shooting the gun. Yes, bouncepads would be supported as well.

-30 or so maps, each having a special area which players will learn they need to control in order to win. All powerups would be spaced in one main portion of the map so the player must control that part of the map if he wants to win easily. Ofcourse, you'll have obstacles to get around to do just that(you may have to rocket jump off walls, etc.)

-Hitboxes would actually be on the players body, none of the infront or behind or next to it b\s.

-Always run is on by default.

-Poly per pixel hit damage so it is more advanced player oriented rather than newbie player oriented.

-Player modes are DM, TDM, Tournament DM(where you fight certain players per round and move up ranks to win a map), 1v1 DM, CTF, Trickjump(where you must get a certain number of points by doing trick jumps and win a certain number of matches in order to win a map), Cooperative, LMS, and a UT2004 assault style like mode.

Before I move on to SP, some general game info:

Weapons would be the basics. Pistol, Shotgun, Assault Rifle, Sub-Machine Gun. Then you have your more powerful weapons like the Grenade Launcher, Chaingun, Rocket Launcher and such. One of a few specialty weapons would be a Bomb Launcher. Using a built-in LCD screen, you must decide how many bombs you'll launch at a time, how long until they explode, and how far they will travel before it lands. This weapon would be critical to completing some SP missions, and in MP you'll have to do it by clicking the scroll wheel on your mouse so you can do it quickly. Yes, a few weapons will have alt-fire, but only a few.

AI will be advanced. They may or may not work in teams to gang up on you no matter what mode. In SP and MP, they'll strafe and circle strafe, in MP they will do that plus bunny hop and rocket jump.

HUD will include a changeable crosshair, weapon you are holding, what weapons you have and a main ammo\all ammo number under them(basically UT2004 style but fixed), ammo for your current weapon, armor, health, stamina, and the powerup you are using and how much time you have left to utilize it.

In game browser will include a level editor, which will include readily made textures and models so you can simply place an item anywhere and will become a part of your map. You'll be able to save it and then play it. You can choose to type in an IP for a server an the admin of that server will be aware that you want your map added and he can decide to put it in for you if he wants. If he can't decide or wants to talk it over, he can simply press the "decide later" button.

I'll edit this post with SP later, don't feel like it now.

I don't know what my game would be like but it would BLOODY INCLUDE CO-OP!!

if i could create a game, it would combine elements from the survival horror genre and fps genre...it wouldn't be so action intensive and i would set up an amazing immersive atmosphere, write a great story and give it a twisted edge so when you left playing it you would have a sour taste in your mouth, feel incredibly overwhelmed and disturbed

a little like you feel after watching the texas chainsaw massacre for the first time

No Hud.
Violence discouraged. (Less shooting, more walking around and interacting with the plot and the environment)
Follows 24 hours of a mobster's life in real-time.
Dialogue and acting driven, but not a necessarily strong storyline.
Multi-linear gameplay.
Emphasis on art direction and ambience.

did you watch the KILLZON2 - PS3 video, Yep....

Story driven, good AI (Retreat, back up, follow orders correctly), Bosses on every level, multi player AND co op mode. Also, I would have a really cool special wep like the BFG 4000.

I have an amazing idea for a game. Im sorry but I am afraid to say it because its just not safe to. Its very specific and I know it would be a great success if it were ever made the way I envision it. And the way I envision it is entirely possible in real life with todays technology.

The game will be divided up into seperate missions, each with 3 difficulty levels (just like Golden EyE/Perfect Dark). Beating it on easy will allow you to progress to the next level. Beating it on normal will allow you to use weapons/items you've gained from the shooting range/challenges/other stages on that level. Beating it on hard will allow you to mess with weapon/player skins, weather, time of day etc etc.

Imagine you're playing a mission that involves fighting in a dirty down town bar somewhere. Out of curiosity you decide to check under the counter - and discover a meaty shotgun. Now, next time you select a level to play, and assuming you've completed it on normal, you will have the option to use the shotgun. This alone could make the experience completely different. Now the shotgun will be unlocked for the shooting range - which, once you get a decent score, may enable the unlocking of other weapons/items/skins ..... which you can then use in other levels/shooting range.

Now imagine there's 100's of guns, each offering a vary different experience in levels that you can customise. 'I'm going to do this mission at night - with nothing but throwing knives , or 'I want to do it in the morning, when it's snowing, dressd as James Bond, with duel 'face off' golden pistols' :)

Add loads developer made challenges (similar to Perfect Dark) - 'complete this mission in 3 mins using just a sniper rifle'. Let these unlock extras, and other challenges.

The game will encourage you to get better at it, to practise (something very lackinging single player fps these days) To just see the next level all you have to do is finish the one you're playing on easy - but to play it with your favourite guns requires you have finished it on normal, using the default load out. To play at dusk, using the uber Ninja skin you just unlocked by spending hours practising with shuriken at the shooting range, will require you have finished that level on hard (which will actually be 'hard')

And - as with all games - the more you play it, become its master, the more you'll love it.

No matter how great HL2 was - I haven't had the desire to come back to it for months and months. It's been done, finished. Nothing esle to see and no more challenge. Perfect Dark lasted me years - and all because it allowed the user to experiement, was difficult, and offered challenge after challenge to overcome.

So basically, I want GE/PD on the pc - but more so :)

//edit (it'd also be nice if the no.s and types of enemy could vary more.. Instead of always having 5 guys with mp5's in that room, maybe have an uber guy with a chain gun - or just 2 of them, or maybe 10. Mix up their patrol routes. Maybe have a challenge that will allow you to choose which enemy type you'll fight on a given level - choose their weapons/armour/items etc

Try and make each time you play a level a new experience)

Will it have Ninja's?

Does anybody here think that HalfLife2.net,if we all combined talents, could create any of these...??
Using the Source Engine for sure tho...

Hmmmm Good idea. We should have a mod that involves every skilled person in HL2net...too bad people don't co-operate. Bastards!

It could be done...
But we'd have to have the biggest brain-stroming session in the history of internet forums...

we could. we just make a thread about it and done!

Mine would be a first person roleplaying shooter game utilizing high end computer and or console specifications.

The game would pit you in a large city and rural enviroment, spanning a vast expanse of a state, perhaps even spreading to multiple cities as in the wonderful game GTA, san Andreas. It would incorporate a driving mode similiar to GTA, with the optional(or mandatory) more realistic approach by being first person in the vehicle with a highly detailed interior model for many cars and cruisers... trucks etc. You'd be an average police officer working up the ranks, and perhaps even migrating into the FBI by taking on missions that are given to you either on patrol or in a mission briefing room for high profile and ongoing scenarios. You then need to drive to the scene, and figure out the best methods to approach entering one of the many hundreds of interior decorated buildings from gas stations, to office buildings, and once you do enter... it'll turn from the driving mode to a squad based tactical shooter similiar to counter strike and rainbow six, etc.

Basically a GTA styled game(though much much improved) meets your average FPS shoot em up tactical game.

Im in the early stages of making one using the HL2 engine...

THE LA RIOT SPECTACULAR...

Its set in the future, the President has been assisinated by the IRA, and all out war fare has broken out on the streets.

America has been engulfed by mob rule. As an ordinay man on the streets, you start the game armed by a peice of 2x4, a busted up panel van, a cell phone, a laptop, a box of headache tablets, and $50 in cash.

The game follows you as you try to rescue your 11 year old daughter, and try to last out the riot.

Its up to you to stay on your wits, and last out the 24 hour long riot. It will occur in real time, and it can only be done in one sitting. If it all gets too much for you, there may be an end it all feature.

With an extensivley large range of weapons, the weapons can either be purchased, or stolen from the bodies of the recently decesed. Money, Fake ID's and most things can also be stolen right down to cigerettes, areasols and lighters. You are also able to Hi-jack cars.

I doubt this would ever get realised, but if anyones intrested, i have character concept designs, game interface designs and a rough script. If anyones intrested PM Me...

You obviously didn't read it all (Ninja's are mentioned )
Will there be Co-Op Ninjas and Ninja(s) vs Ninja(s)?

I'd sort of like to see an FPS where you're just one man in something really epic. I mean, 1000s of soldiers on each side, some fortified, some in vehicles etc. It'd take such ridiculous specs to be able to have it all going, but it'd be awesome to play. Situations where 30 or so men don't really matter, and artillery fire makes for some really interesting ragdolls.
