wtf 9.2 !!!
Half-Life 1 got 9.5 , i think they will give HL2 a 9.7

Thats pretty low for hl2. I trust Pc Gamer us tho. They rated all other games i have perfectly. So giving hl2 98% means its a 98% game.

9.2 is bad?

Are you guys nuts?

Anyway - keyword: rumour.

Although, I must agree I will be slightly dissapointed it it does get 9.2 from IGN, as they rated even RTW and sims 2 a 9.4

I'd quite welcome a lower score, just to see what's wrong with the game...

I'm not sure where that rumor originated because I'm a member over at IGN and we've heard nothing of the sort :)

Well some dude, said that Dan adams "hinted" him a score in the low 9s.

Also, Tal furthur gives a tricky backup by hinting -

Between "1.0 and 10.2"

10.2 - 1.0 = 9.2

I also trust PC Gamer ... whenever they said a game was great, I also found it great, and when it got less than 80%, it did, in fact, suck.

So I trust PC Gamer!

I doubt whether an online review would really have that much effect. Everyone is going to buy it anyway. Reviews count for sweet f.a. now that the game is a few hours from release. Come tomorrow, people will have forgotten all about the reviews.

LOL actually we at IGN interpreted that as being 1.0-10.2 = -9.2.

Turst me, don't read too much into what Tal has to say. And if they did put the score in the low 9's - there's only one reason I can think of: no native HL2 themed multiplayer.

Who cares about the reviews? I know somebody who works in the games industry and his games where given a high rating before they had even allowed it to be reviewed, it wasnt even nearly complete... He was on the phone to the people writing the review and they simply threw a number into the air which wasnt too over the top and that would also give the game a good cred. Its mostly down to money... Publishers giving out back handers...

And this is from a rather strong source within the industry...

So what score a magazine gives a game doesnt count for alot, id rather judge for myself than listen to others who judge in a differnt way :)

it needs a 9.8 or better so IGN Xbox's Halo2 review doesnt beat HL2.

IGN always overrate their games, 9.2 for IGN to most publications means something in the 8.xx. If they've rated it lower than Half-Life I'd be surprised since we're getting it's either as good as or better than the original out of everywhere else.

And to prove a point, look at Sims 2 on game rankings:

If half life 2 has lesser score then halo 2, i'm gonna have to quit my membership. Read my thread i made yesterday if you want to know why I feel this way.

I'm pretty sure you can find a review where Halo2 beats Half-life 2.... not all magazines will love Half-life 2..... but then again who's joining me in jumping off this cliff???

If they rate Half-Life 2 lower than The Sims 2 and the same as FarCry I'll fart in their general direction. I personally thought FarCry had rather boring derivative gameplay.

Based on IGNs past reviews, I think a 9.2 would indicate something really wrong with the game. D3 got a 8.9. I think D3 has a lot of positives, but the AI and scripting is weak, the multiplayer is very bland, and the game has poor voice acting (imo). For HL2 to score a mere 3 points higher would indicate that that many of the neat features we are look toward are either flawed or do not help the story along.

IGN over inflates their scores, at least the console counterparts. Looking at their top scores... they gave Road To Rome, a BF1942 expansion, a 9.1. BF1942 was pretty good, but the expansions were very light and were not that great--and no one plays them.

I like IGN, I go there daily, but a low 9 indicates a good game with some flaws that detract from the game or an above average game with lots of hype.

I hoper reviewers stop knocking HL2 for the multiplayer. CS:S is better than FarCry or Doom3 multiplayer IMO. Much more refined and long life. I never played CS, so CS:S has introduced me to it and a lot of other gamers. But HL2 is about the single player experience... I do not get a lot of single player games, but HL2 has a ton of potential. I want HL2 judged by what is THERE, what is not. I cannot even think of the last FPS that had a great single player and great MP... I think reviewers need to start considering them different animals. Just my opinion.

Exactly, that would probably be the only reason would be native MP. Possibly the length...who knows.

And, on top of it all, they gave GTA:SA a 9.9, the highest rated game on IGN among all consoles including the PC. I've played SA and quite frankly I was disappointed, nothing to be thrilled about.

btw, Is this noon EST or PST?

Well CS didn't become the largest played online FPS ever for sucking, but some people think CS is out dated and would've enjoyed to see something new. However the formulas that DooM 3 and FarCry put into their multiplayer component are even more dated.

PST.

And as for length, I don't think that would play a role in the scoring. Look at the high scores given to games such as Max Payne 2 and Call of Duty - and those games were a little over 6 or 7 yours long. Half Life 2 is at least twice as much and according to some reviewers 19 to 20 hours long. Thus, gameplay length usually isn't a major factor in scoring.

Did this guy mean noon or midnight? Sometimes people on the internet can be "confused"....just doesn't seem like a normal time to release something...
