IGN Quake 4 review is up - score = 8.1

Not too shabby for IGN.

EDIT: No video review? What is this lamesauce?

8.1 is hardly impressive, especially from IGN - who often give high scores to very average games. Unreal 2 got 8.2 and that was an unbelievable crock of shite.

I still hope Q4 will be decent, but think it's more likely they ballsed it up :/

To summarize, we have the following scores presently for Quake 4:

IGN - 8.1
PC Gamer (US) - 70%
Game Informer - 8.75

In contrast we have F.E.A.R.:

IGN - 9.2
PC Gamer (US) - 92%
PC Zone - 90%

I'll give it a go on the Xbox 360. The SP's good and that's all I really care about.

That's too bad. I was really expecting a lot more from this game. I might rent it when its on the 360.

Does anyone know where you can get some new videos? The ones on IGN are old. Is there any gameplay footage yet besides the original trailer, the vehicle trailer and the multi player footage? Seems like they didn't release any single player gameplay footage yet. Just some old clips on IGN.

I still think this game looks pretty awesome. Sure it could be better but not bad for an Xbox 360 launch title at the least. I myself liked Doom 3. It could have been better yes but it still was a pretty atmospheric game for me. I love the Doom 3 engine though I wish it had higher res textures and character models as well as better outside environments.

I personally cant wait for mp. Going to be playing that competetivly.

And they gave GTA:SA a 9.9... laff.

hmmmm.. guess this is another game i';m waiting for to hit $30 or less... I really wanted a good singleplayer game out of this, too bad Raven couldnlt deliver from the sound of it

It has the cross-platform plague.

Well they said the single player was good, but not as good as they hyped up to be (Doom 3 anyone?) so it'l be worth a go... but the multiplayer is limited to classic CTF, DM, TDM, 16 players, and 9 (-_-*) maps.

I think they were a bit harsh on the score but atleast now I know i'll be let down, unlike D3

I must be going insane but I was certain that the score was 8.1, now it's 8.2? wtf? Did it change or am I going bonkers? Or both?

Thats not actually good for IGN, I mean, they gave Pariah 8.1 as well I think. Says alot.

nah,

dam it, I THOUGHT its going to be one hell of multiplayer... :(

looks good

I got a little nervous when the 70%-rumour started to circulate, but after reading this review I feel pretty confident that q4 is the right game for me. Very few of the issues the reviewer had are things I would gripe about in a quake-game. Indeed, there were far more positive things in the review (more open areas, less darkness, upgradable weapons, more colours, all of which are important to me).

Some of the gripes he had sound serious though. I hope the game will be editable like doom3 was so people can mess around with simple variables to make the game more challenging and fun. I don't plan on getting it right away since I am currently in the market for a x1800xt, which wont be here for a couple of weeks at the least.

All in all this review pushed q4 up on my hypelist again. Unfortunately q4 is the only game that has improved on the hype-o-meter lately :(.
