The guys over at IGN PC have reviewed Half-Life 2 and is so far the highest scoring online review of the game. It scores a massive 9.7 and even states that graphically, Half-Life 2 is more superior than Doom 3. Something I've personally been saying for a long time.
If you're a fan of Half-Life, action games in general, or are looking for a way to get into PC gaming, this is it. It'll hook you, reel you in, and hold you captive for serious hours of hardcore brilliance. This is gaming at its best and shows that the future holds no bounds when the might of technology, precision of design, and touch of artistry work in tandem.
They've managed to bag some new screenshots too:[br]
[br]The game is looking great and in less than 12 hours time we'll all be able to play it. Stay tuned for more news as it happens, and why not join our IRC channel for the big party?[br]

Nice screens :). It's now less than 12 hours away!!!!!!!!!!!

omg the detail on the guns in this review and the one below have visible dirt and age on them. have they changed it or something????

anyway.....OMFG IM PLAYING HL2 AT 9 TOMORROW!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I said before, it doesn't do a whole lot differently than other games in the shooter genre in terms of pure gameplay innovation, but it takes existing styles, then mixes, matches and makes them better. It sets the standard in all areas, especially the use of physics as a gameplay tool instead of merely a visual treat for gamers.
Er, hello? A bit of hypocrisy going on there. :p

I almost got a heatattack when you said 12 hours. I thought you meant how long IGN said it took to finish the game.

*breathes*

flaming zombies, better graphics than Doom3 !! my graphics card will die tomorrow !

and for the other 9800 pro owners
IGN said:
That said, at 1280 resolution, the game ran flawlessly, even in the most extreme environments with tons of geometry and lots of objects moving around, both with and without AI.
They used a 9800 pro in the review. :cheese:

Wooohoo, Thanks! I was a little worried about that. But when it was supposed too come out (in Sep 2003 I think ;)) the 9800 was the best 3d card available, so maybe that makes a little sense.

[EDIT] and when I think about HL2 last year and 3d cards I remember those ATI and NVidea benchmarks which drove NVidea card owners crazy :p. I wasn't yet registered here at that time but I think there must have been a lot of ATI vs NVidea threads here :p.

[EDIT AGAIN] About that machine used for the review. It has 2 GB RAM, so if you only have 1 GB, like me, I still expect sometimes a slowdown during scenes with lot's of action going on. But does that really matter? No, it will be still playeable I think. BTW I've encountered some spoilers so if you want too be totally spoilerfree don't read it. But I think those people already know that and don't read any reviews of HL2. But it only makes me wanting HL2 even more (and I thought that wasn't possible anymore :D)

oh man still i think my graphics card is still gonna light on fire

i just got that feelin in the back of my head it will.

i like how if IGN says that HL2 have better graphics chris_d emphasizes that and everyone takes it as the word of the creator but if gamespot says D3 have better graphics you can only hope to hear silence..

BTW, "more superior" does not mean anything.

I truly cant belive where so close im goin to school later to play an hour or two before have go to P.E

Ah .. It's almost here. Can you hear it coming up the stairs ?

Didnt like the review. :/

Pc gamer all the way

Bla bla bla review this review that. Personally I don't care what some guy rates a game. It's his opinion but it shouldn't influence ours. :|

Great review by IGN. Much better than GameSpot's. :p

if you judge graphics by the quality of the characters, hl2 doesn't touch d3, lighting, hl2 doesn't ouch d3, if your talking the look of the levels, the feel of the levels, the skill of the level designers and the look and quality of the textures, hl2 does beat d3. But i wonder what valve team could do with the d3 engine, and vice versa, they should each try to make a mod for the opposing engine, that would pwn.

If you ask me the facial graphics in hl2 totally wipe out d3, and the clothes are incredibly simmilar in quality. The lighting d3 does have the edge on, in those rare places there are light.
