They have it up now:

They say Lombardi confirmed it with THEM.

"September 23, 2003 - In a not-so-surprising move, Valve Software has officially, positively confirmed that Half-Life 2 will *gasp* be delayed.

Doug Lombardi, Valve Software's director of marketing, confirmed with us today that Valve has decided to delay Half-Life 2 from it's original slated September 30th release. The official word is that Valve is "targeting a holiday release." No official new release date has been announced at this point.

While we're a bit sad that we won't be playing Half-Life 2 next week, we here at IGN actually applaud the delay announcement. If Half-Life 2 truly isn't ready for release, then so be it. We would rather play a well-tested, perfected game than a buggy sequel to a title we hold in high esteem.

Of course, we'll have more info as it becomes available.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled pining."

I think its a little too late for that. Its real and it sucks.

Its very strange how things suddenly turned out to be !

This is not the way that Fans should be treated !

I think this is the last big example, that they should not give a release date at all. id Software invented the "when it's done". Screwed this politics for Doom3 and told everyone 2003 at E3. Now they pushed to 2004. Valve couldn't give a correct release date after 5 years of developement and until 1 week prior to release. If there is one thing the software developer should have learned:

DO NOT GIVE A RELEASE DATE, EVEN A RELEASE YEAR, IF YOU ARE NOT 100% SURE. ALL YOU DO IS TO DISSAPPOINT YOUR LOYAL FANS AND EVEN TURN THEM AGAINST YOU.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it the same with Hitman 2 last year? They had everything set for a March release, but one week before release they pushed it back to september. IIRC they even gave a "Gone gold" press release for it...

They've posted the same info every other site has. Just because they post it doesn't make it anymore fake or any more confirmed than it was five minutes ago.

Locked.
