My steam installed on Local Disk C:.
I dont HL2 to be installed on C:, i want it on D:, there's an option to install the game wherever I want to?
Another question:
I want to burn the CDs, how do i do that....? I dont know the files, and the steam downloads the files without saving them or something.... then, how do i do that?

You won't be installing HL2. HL2 is the files in your SteamApps folder. At least if you are a Steam purchaser, there will be no more install.

Reinstall steam on drive D. If you want to, you can copy the .gfc files from your old steam directory to your new one.

You can install anywhere you like (providing you have the space). You can burn the GCF's to backup, Steam will be offering this soon.

um i think those are what you call compressed files...

im pretty sure that it will need to be installed for it to actually work...

the steam directory your talking about is only where it stores the files it downloads

oh but if you want to ensure... uninstall steam making sure you keep the preload files then reinstall it to the drive you want to have hlo2 installed to then move preload files to that directory

Steam is weird because it doesn't seem to need to be installed. When I reformatted my hard drive I just copied the Steam directory from the dvd I burned it to and it runs fine. I guess it doesn't need to be in the registry, which is nice.

I'm afraid, to move the .gcf files, i'm not sure about the registery... it may "destroy" my .gcf files which are 4.5GB

it will not destroy them. all you have to do is move the GCF's to a temp directory on your D drive and then uninstall steam on C. Then install steam on D and put your GCF's in the right folder in steam.
(D:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps)

hope that helps
