I'm getting really scared... I'm hearing things...

Ok. I'm playing Garry’s mod. Everything is quiet, except for the odd cinder block colliding with the other, or the occasional splash as I drop a limp G-man into a pool of murky water. Then... I hear something. Something subtle... far off. An ambience? No, too random... sounds like a voice...

...and it's gone. I'm slightly baffled... but hey, could have been anything.

After a few more minutes of welding metal pipes to people's legs and watching them sink like a stone, there it is again. Clearer... it's in another language, someone speaking... a very melodramatic voice... but after a few moments, it fades away.

I'm getting scared now. Seconds later it's back again, louder than ever. Instinctively I fiddle with the volume control; the background noise from my headphones gets fuzzier, and I can hear the gentle knocking of some balloons in Garry’s mod, but the signal stays the same volume... then disappears.

So now I'm worried. I exit Garry's mod instantly, and load up MSN. In a state of panic, I want to talk to someone. First online person I see (just happens to be Hazar), I type furiously to, explaining what's happened, and why I'm worried. Hazar replies calmly, listing the possible causes...

"Are your headphones wireless?"
"nope.."
"Are they decent headphones?"
"nope, crappy..."
"Are you sure it's not a radio signal?"
"Well I find it hard to listen to radio one from my room, let alone a foreign station..."

As we talk, it kicks in again. It sounds... Spanish? No, more like Japanese... something like that. I take off my headphones; just to be sure it's not in my head, but the sound is coming firmly from my headphones.

And then it's gone. Just like that. The strongest signal, that had been getting louder and louder, vanished in an instant.

What could have caused this? I've just got some crappy headphones plugged into some cheap speakers. Can my speakers really pick up a strong foreign signal? Personally I'm baffled. OK, maybe if the headphones had been wireless I could have intercepted a mobile phone call or something... but speakers?

What do you think?

I wouldn't worry about it, as long as the voices don't tell you to kill people or burn things...

Uh.. were your speakers wireless? lol...

Just kinding. But, to brighten your day, yes its your speakers. My brother had the same problem. If you put your ear up to the speaker, you could hear this very faint sound of a guy talking. So I hope that solves your problem. Try getting new speakers. ;)

Interesting story. Don't think it's anything to worry about though. Unless of course the voices are telling you to 'kill people or burn things'. Then be afraid...be very afraid.

OMG White Noise all over again! For your sake, I hope you didn't recently watch that movie (heard it was crappy, but the trailer still gives me the willies). If I were in your shoes and had seen that movie, I'd have burned the headphones and played with speakers for the next week and a half.

That wasnt Hazar. that was me :(

Anyhoo... i heard wireless headphones can pick up mobile phone calls...

Just by saying that you're making me worried... DON'T FEED MY IMAGINATION!

*edit* OAR you have the same MSN picture as Hazar. I was in a hurry, how was I supposed to tell the difference? lol

LOL, on my old computer i used to pick up radio signals on the speakers sometimes.
And then the funniest thing happened when we used to have dial up and my mums voice on the phone was coming through the modem and sounding hilarious.

Good old electronic interferance.

Heh, that would freak me out to. But, just dont worry about it. Everyones probly experianced it so dont get scared. :)

(Short recoil, our avatars look good together :p)

your obviously hearing a voice from somewhere,

mentally list the possibilities from where it could origionate from..

firstly the magnet's in the headphones maybe tuning into something accidentally for whatever reason.. do you live near any Pilon's? or Radio Tranceiver's or emitter's?

there are more bizarre reasons for why your hearing what your hearing, but I dont want to confuse or scare anyone here.

Did they tell you to commit suicide?

42 times?

mebbe u r crazah lolol

Was it a distress singnal from a French lady that had been repeating for about 20 years?

I heard voices coming from my speakers all the time. They were very faint at first. As time went by the grew louder, until one day I turned on the PC and they were blaring at me. I knew it was RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) by this time, so I just ordered a few ferrite beads, strapped them onto the speaker lines, and was set. It's totally gone. I picked up mine from here but if you like I could send you some myself (I have tons to spare).

WRONG! They should be telling him to do those things :naughty:

You're not crazy, you're a helicopter! lolololol

Just take a chill pill and listen to WINAMP RAdio station ChillOut Ambient :)

You could probably make money off of it.

Speaking of strange speaker noises...

Sometimes I hear like... This tapping noise... Coming out of the speaker. But its like tapping with that "static" sound. It is actually rythmical... And it alternates from the right and left speakers. My cousin says he get's that too sometimes. Is it normal? Would those bead things help?

There's clearly something in the house causing regular static electronic pulses.
Lots of things could cause this, almost anything electrical in the house.
Ferrites may help, it does depend on where the interferance is coming from though.

We have a dehumidifier in the house that causes clicking on t.v's and speakers whenever it comes on.

wireles headphones exist?
Yep.

My friend's guitar amp picks up some frequencies... we'll be playing, and we'll suddenly hear clear voices over the radio.

I've heard radio chatter in my headphones before without having the radio switched on. My amplifier was set to Video input, and nothing was playing at the time, but I could still hear faint chattering, sounded like a news broadcast, didn't pay much attention to it after that.

I've had the same thing happen to me. It wasn't quite as creepy though since it was a talkshow in english.

Speaking of which, my ears just started ringing. I think they r haunt3d! OH NOES!!!

Dude, why do you need cord-less headphones when you have cord-less ears?

I was gonna say that I didn't remember that conversation.... :p

are the voices crystal clear? (as opposed to staticy?)
do you still hear them with your computer off?
are they telling you to summon the demonic legions and rebuild the roman empire?

If the answer to any two of those questions is yes, it's time to call the ghostbusters! :smoking:

I hear voices all the time. They usually tell me to have sex with my cat. :bounce: :cat: :bounce:
