Quite easily? As noted just a few days ago, it would take a few years. This is a NEW game we are talking about. Just converting it would be plain odd and ugly. Not to mention, you wouldnt get any physics. Meaning it would be like playing HL anyway
Nope, one have to make a new game, remake all levels in higher polycounts and rescript every event, remake every monster, remake every textures, etc etc etc...
Edit: "Please read the "info from Valve only" sticky thread." will only yield that they have tested converting an old HL map to Source. But it would still have zero physics or fancy graphics, it would just be rendered faster than it would in HL (assuming Source is better at it, which I think).

No, I think Valve said there would be utilities to allow you to convert your HL1 maps. And physics come built in with Source, so you wound not have to worry about them too much.
So basically you would have to sex up the textures and the models, make sure the gameplay is OK and you're ready to go.
It doesnt come built in. You have to define it for the objects. Otherwise you could kick a wall and send the whole level flyingOriginally posted by LoneDeranger

And it isnt quite as easy to "sex" up textures or models. It takes alot of time. You cant "sex" them up just like that, you have to remake them. What would be the point of a HL conversion if it looked like HL? Nope, you want pixel shaded water, normal mapped characters, fancy lighting, etc etc... Together with the physics part, you probably have to redesign parts of the levels too. For example, you want to remake the hanging box jump puzzle completely from scratch. And alot of other things. Some things that are scripted in HL you have to remove (well not have to, but physics can handle it). And the list goes on... HL has ALOT of levels. Its gonna take ALOT of time to make something that is good enough.
You just said you have to define itOriginally posted by LoneDeranger
No it is built in. For example, if you're converting a box all you have to do is define it's material as "wood", and it will have all the physical properties of wood, just like that. You can shoot it and it will break and you can throw it down the stairs and it will bounce correctly. Same goes for water (and other materials), it's already built into the engine, you don't have to do it from scratch.
I agree that converting the models might take a long time, but it wouldn't take years for a group of experienced modellers.

True it isnt much, but you still have to alter the level... Please note, that HL is designed to have static objects. Some you have to remake. That's where the entire time consuming part comes in, one have to go over every level.
And that still wouldnt overcome the fact that it would still be ugly, and real mods 100x prettier will be out by the time this is.
