YES YES YES YES YES YES!
Since I bought my brother's computer last Friday to alow me to play my games better, I decided to restart Episode One since I had trouble last time.
This time:
NO LAG.
I HAVE FLASHLIGHT!

Lets hope I don't have as much trouble as I did with Lowlife as I did before.

And off to Episode One I go!

(puts down a Shasta-detecting alarm and waits for results)

mine dosen't run too bad..cept when i put on flashlight fps drops a bit, and HDR lags it a bit too.

Wow. Lowlife was FAR shorter than when I last played it for obvious and understandable reasons. It was so much easier seeing.
Now lets move onto EXIT 17!

My computer has reached its absolute limit when playing Episode One. It can get pretty laggy, especially during the Kleinercasts. HDR is off and all video options are set to the lowest level.

Congratulations. I'm playing all on low too. Around 20-40 fps all the time.

Mine runs fine on medium-high graphics settings, HDR makes it a bit choppy at times, but it really enhances the feel of the game. I upgraded my video card for Ep. 1 for that very reason.

It was awesome. An incredible place to visit.

That it is. And I'm using just the bare minimum video options and no HDR. When I get my new laptop I'm going to replay HL2 and Episode One with the eye-candy turned on. I'm sure I'll be wowed all over again. :)

Maybe i should play it again and turn the graphics down a bit, is it worth sacrificing a bit of video for higher fps do you think?

Everything is still pretty, even at low quality, so do so.

And one thing I was impressed with aswell:

Right before you meet Barney for the second time at the train stations, you have to crowbar (or shoot) down two wooden planks blocking you from leaving the door. The one wooden plank has a corpse on it.
I shot the top plank, and jumped through the door leaving Alyx to somehow get out with the bottom wooden plank. I was impressed that she shot it with her shotgun, and made her way out.

Alyx's AI, especially in Episode One, is pretty damn good. It's good to the point that I enjoy watching her squash headcrabs and perform martial arts on zombies more than me shooting them. :)

Apparently there's more of where that's coming from in Episode Two.

Hah, newbs. My comp plays it on the highest setting at super fast speeds. BEAT DAT!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!

And I can listen to music, have hl2, counterstrike, and doom3 running at the same time, and still not any lag. (Accept starting after load points I gotta sit for a second while it grinds it's gears getting ready to go.) :D

But congrats dude, I'm happy for ya! ^^

You know, I've never played HL2 or Ep 1 with the graphics down, I have all the ones with the low-medium-high set to high set to high, the only ones i change are

Spectral AA
AA
HDR/Bloom.

So if i turn the multi-option ones down, would it run smoother without taking a dent out of the nice picture?

It's not so bad. NPC models aren't quite as sharp, and you'll lose little minute details, but your computer will run a lot smoother.

I was thinking, what if you never go in the elivator when it arrives? will the zombies eventually stop comming if you kill them all?

I'd say they're on spawners so they never stop coming, and spawn at different intervals

not bad. You could get a hell of a lot bigger hard drive for not too much. Check my specs.

Manufacturer: Mix (Case = ultra)

Processor: Intel Pentium (D) Core 2 duo, 3.4 ghz (per chip)

Memory: two 1 and some gig sticks.

Hard Drive: 320 gig

Video Card: Nvidia Gforce 7800 GT

Monitor: Samtron 1999 model (shitty, but I'm getting an LCD for christmas. :D)

Sound Card: Creative X-FI Sound card (Need a newer one.)

Speakers: Logitech 5.1 2007 model speakers & sub wufer

Operating System: Windows XP home

You can get just as good specs if you save a little money. :)

(You're almost there, so just save it all. ^^)

I'm getting a new video card for my PC, a nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS. Does anyone tell how well it will run Episode 1 or Lost Coast? Thanks :)

BTW these are my specs:

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GHz
Memory: 1024MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Card name: THIS WILL BE --> NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

That card will run anything on the market awesomely. AWESOMELY.

I envy you.

EDIT: I've had the same com for the past 3 years (with RAM and video card update though...)

Waaaahahait.
I still havent got Ep.1 so i have a question.
Is "Lowlife" the name of the underground level, with zombies, antlions and darkness all around you. ALSO referred to as the darkest moment in HL history?

Kevin mate, yes... Ok - currently the wiki isn't at the point that i could tell you to look there... So just search HL2 Episode 1 in wikipedia... Why bump a thread for something you could have found in a few mins...
