im gonna look into the athlon

Do that, athlon's have been said (and I belive this is true) that they are better for gaming. And they are alot cheaper. :)

hey when i first decided to build my first pc, i didn't know much and i did it while following a crap tutorial. now i've built a total of 6, so really he could do it, he just needs to learn more about the compnents.

well let me then just say it all depends on the person.
some pple can start from scratch and not have any problems learning while for others its not so easy.

still, my advice is pretty sound.. it would be pretty bad if he bought the parts and some how damaged them while putting the PC together.. nevermind the cash he'd have spent on the parts.. :|

I think that someone who asks "what is an atholon" should not atempt to fit a new mobo and processor. Get someone else to do it, or buy a new PC.
If you do fit a new mobo, you may well end up having to buy new memory which is compatible. you may also find that your existing power supply doesn't have the extra 4 pin square connector, so you might also end up replacing your PSU. If your PC is made by a large company like compaq, dell, hp or sony etc, then it may not even be possible to fit a generic motherboard.
If none of this makes any sense to you, then seriously, get a mate to do it for you, or buy a new PC.

Yeah, good point. :)

if i go past the req on preffered specs, does that mean that can run the game with all the bells and whistles?

The Required Specifications are only there to tell you what you need to run the game in the lowest detail possible. I believe the prefered specifications for half-life 2 is:
2.4 GHz Processor

512MB RAM

DirectX 9 level graphics card

Windows 2000/XP

Mouse

Keyboard

So I spose that my computer wouldnt be good enough either? Its pretty much the same but PIII 866 mghz. Can anyone hook me up with a good site to buy computer parts on? I'm in nz and wood prefer it 2 b local.

You gotta get something like a P4 or Althon XP1800 to play. Your Radeon would only barely able to play at high settings so you gotta use low or medium

Ya this guys trolling I think, most of his replies make no sense at all with respect to the context of the discussion.
