Yeah its pretty noob friendly here, just don't show up on tuesdays... Thats when they do the sacrifice... Other than that you're good.
 
To hell with noob friendleness, what we need is some good old elietism.

Personally I really couldn't be arsed with posting in any other forum and it's nice just to have a break from what ever I'm doing every so often and just post some crap on here, so I won't be leaveing, there would be no point, I would have to make myself not come back here.
 
I spend like 3-4 hours daily browsing and posting on these forums... on and off that is.

Although the HL2 Discussion Forum (formerly General Discussion Forum) has been rendered uninhabitable. Do any of you still go in there? I know I don't. I ain't going back there, man. The horror...
 
I occasionally visit the Story forum but not General HL2, its just too messed up. Thats why i was always glad i was made a mod over off topic,a nd subsequently the General Forums
 
the only forums i have EVER visited, and probally ever will visit is general off topic, general games and art and des. sounds starnge coming from a halflife2.net user, but i dont actually care much for half life 2. i care for the engine, and the technological improvements, but i was a latecomer to halflife
and i never really got into the story much. It is the most anticipated game that i want- but only because everything else looks and plays like shit compared to it.

Hmm how to start this off ??

I think Frank and some others are annoyed by all the new posts of jibberish on the forum there is no real debates that actually have some real content to them its mostly just useless spam.

The useless spam is a result of the award system as we near closer to the games release new ppl come in to the forums and well they feel new everyone is a scanner or has over 1k posts so this encourages ppl to post off topic or useless spam threads to boost up there own ego i think thats a good word for it cant think straight but i think you can see my meaning of how its turning the forum into a spam hangout and not a actual debate forum where you can talk about interesting topic that concern the game.

Alot of things dont help this the fact that Valve has not release anything worth talking about in a very long time. Like some have mentioned you dont even hang out in some of the forum area's because its to boring.

The awards system can work both ways it has negative and positive features.

Negative i explained can cause mindless threads for just spam.

Positive can reinforce the laws of the forum anyone who has a decent record and high post count will think twice before doing bad spamming.

Now as you mentioned about the noobs coming in and there mindless well ya i think so there is nothing for them to talk about and there just killing time and what a better way then to improve your poster status by spamming.

If you didnt have right now a reward system and post count visible it would bring calm to the forum. Although the senior members may get out of hand there is nothing for them to lose but the noobs wouldnt try so hard to keep posting things like when is Hl2 getting released.

Im sure this forum will be a wonderful place after the game gets released or we get some new info everyone seems frustrated right now and i think Frank just hit his breaking point thats all.

I hope to see him return when we finally have more stuff to talk about and good buy Frank you will be missed :(

Anyway, Dark Angel ive seena lot of threads lately where things are being discussed wuite in depth, in fact Frank was one of the people posting spam threads.
 
Well actually I've been rather busy this week and that's probably why the forums are in decline.

I will be back in full force on Mar. 21 and that's when I'll lay down the law :cheese: :sniper:
 
Okay guys, let me say this… most of you here, who cry about “old times”, were the same people whom you hate now. Yes, for example, Badger was a damn spamer (first one to get 1000 posts) and I was very angry when he got mods rights. Well he changed, which is for the better in my opinion. Offtopic forums were absolutely the same, filled with the same spam that it has now. This why you cry about “newbs come and post the same shit”.

Only thing changed is General HL2 forums, they are filled now with bunch of crybabies, who have some insane desire to post “OMFG VALVE SUXOR, OMFG FARCRY WILL PWNZ HL2”.

P.S. I was very anti-spam back in time, but I figured, can’t beat them, join them.
 
Bah. In my day, no-one posted pointlessly or made pointless topics, I had to walk fifteen miles to school every day in the snow, and PC games were all made of wood.
