I think they should learn to live by our rules, sure they have their own culture and all that, and yes, they can have it. But they gotta show us some respect to, we want or own culture, our own flag and all that.

No, that's not racism at all. Anybody who calls you one for feeling that way is an idiot, and a racist themselves.

Anybody who things that immigrants/minorities need extra help/benefits and that we should drop totally all of our home culture things to recognize theirs only is essentially the racist one themselves. What are they saying, that because they are a different skin color, etc they are too dumb to work their way up and become something great without help from the state?

We cant even sing our national anthem when we graduate, or when its our national day on some places... thats... weird. I mean, its still our country right? We should have those things that makes us a country.

I gotta agree with what you said, and I count myself lucky to be living in a country where we can fly our flag and sing our anthem when we want to. In Australia, our culture is important to us, but you don't have to go too far to find people who'll tell you that Australia is so multi-cultural that we infact lack our own culture. I'm not saying immigration and multi-culturalism is a bad thing though, don't get me wrong.

Here in Oz, if they don't work hard and/or behave themselves, we chuck them over the side of a ship and tell them to swim home...

Nah, immigrants are fairly good here in Oz (sometimes they tend to keep to themselves in their own little communities, but that's fine by me, because when they don't we get people like "The Wogboy" ), except for the dilemma of the illegal immigrants, which is a kind of "Damned if we do, damned if we don't" sort of arrangement.

If we put them into detention for trying to enter the country illegally, we have to be careful that they're in acceptable conditions (which is a drain on resources and money that could be going to actual citizens), or people complain. If we were to let them straight in, it'd piss off those people who have been waiting to get into the country by legal means, we'd have no way of telling exactly what kind of people they are, and a similar number of different people would complain. It's no-win...

lol @ the 'children overboard' fiasco. Like you said, the immigrants do tend to stay in their own communities, but I find that they do have a tendancy to behave like the original poster experienced, in my experiences.

I personally agree with the current policy regarding the detention of illegal immigrants. The detention centers are fine...everyone has a bed with enough blankets and heat in the winter, there's air conditioning in the summer, the children are receiving a free education, they receive free medical assistance, and they get three full meals a day unless they choose to go on hunger-strikes. What annoys me is when they then riot and trash these facilities, and we have to spend another $1.3 Million fixing it up again, when they're arguably better than in their homelands (for some) :/

Another story that happen not too long ago.

I had to take my mother to the hospital in the middle of the night because he didnt feel any good (long story short). Anyways, we have pretty good hospitals after all, free and all but theres a helloffa a long wait sometimes.

So right, there we was, me and my big brother waiting (mom was already in), when a family of immigrats came in. Nothing special with that, i mean... they have the right to healthcare too like everyone else. But the part that made me a little angry was when the mother began screaming that her daughter (had feaver or something) should go in first, without waiting. Of cource, they cant do that, they need to take the most serious ones before. No no, she didnt like that so she began screaming "Thats only because we're immigrants!" Of course, that didnt have anything with the situation to do.

I really try to not dislike them, but its kinda hard when they do stuff like they do.

Well, with some hope it will get better soon, when the older generation dies of. Rascism is widespread among people over 60. Believe me, there's nothing that pisses me off more then when some old lady puts her purse or something on the seat next to her as soon as an immigrant/black dude enters the buss. Makes me want to walk up and hit her :flame: And the way the old people talk! Sitting in their little meetings drinking coffee and yapping away about "the immigrant problem". Bah! Disgusting!

And all non-swedish people that read this: Far from all immigrants behave like the previous posters have written. In fact, I've had far more problems with swedish people than immigrants here.

What word should i use to make you understand what im talking about? I cant use the word us, becouse im not talking about everyone in this country.

I have a few immigrants as friends, and they are great. My best friend in my young years was black (can i use black or im am being racist?), we dont have any contact now since we moved away from each other. What makes me angry is the attitude some of them (again, what word should i use? us?) have. The typical Swede are a silent creature, and they come from a culture that you gotta make yourself heard... and that kinda collides.

I think both groups (oh man, im at it again...) need to compromise. They (again...) cant come here and think we're against them just because they are from another country, I also think they should accept that we have our cultural things (we should do the same but since this is our country to begin with...).

As so understand by reading my posts, i like the Swedish culture, and i dont want us to stop showing what makes us Swedes just because the immigrants dont like it... but wait.... this is sweden right?

How about you look at it this way..surely there must be aproblem if so many people in so many countries are seeing problems with immigrants. Ok, perhaps its not "immigrants" that are the problem, but there is something there and the complainers shouldn't be dismissed as racist so easily.

I know there are a lot of immigrants who come with good intentions, but the sad fact is ther cultures are so different that problems are bound to happen, and it is we, the "natives" who have to change to suit immigrants. People should integrate into the country they move to, rather than imposing their culture on it. If I were to move to America, I wouldn't tell them to stop celebrating the 4th of July because I find it offensive. I wouldn't go to Irsrael and tell them to stop celebrating the passover because its somehow against what I beleive. I would obviously keep something of my former country, but I would try to integrate myself and learn their ways.

Yes, if we let them come here, why should show alot more respect than they do. Sertain districts in Oslo(norwegian capitol) have ben compleatly overrun by imigrants(mostly illegal, but they wount admit that). Its so bad that the norwegians HAVE to move out because they get harassed. I mean, Its like conquering other countrys. :frown:

"Hey, some of my brest friends are immigrants, but..."


Its the "but" thats the key. Saying but in a sentence basically negates everything you have said previously. For instance, "I really like you, but i think you're stupid."

I wasn't having a go at you, however it seems that "my best friend is black" is an excuse people try to use to say they aren't racist. I know you better then a random stranger who wants to argue, so its ok.
