I'm always disappointed by the lack of multiplayer cooperative modes in modern FPSs, and while I acknowledge that such a mode in the Half Life franchise is neither a good idea nor a workable one, imagine the following setup for a multiplayer game:
One player has a portal gun and no weapons or attack capability whatsoever. Another player has weapons but no portal gun. This dynamic could be used both to solve puzzles and for a unique combat experience. If enemies attack with some heavy handed damage, use of the portal gun may become vital to maneuver into position for attack or behind cover.
