important computer things you should know about

Odd. I know that Firefox can use lots of memory when you have a ton of tabs open. Just kill the process and start again, I guess. It's not a big issue, especially if you have a way to restore sessions.

Sometimes I need to keep tabs open. It is annoying to close everything that you are doing and restarting because the program leaks memory.

That would have been pretty good if you'd posted it closer to Murray. :D

Adobe Photoshop
SSH - Only if you need it.
Microsoft Office :X
MATLAB - Only if you're into that sort of thing.
Firefox with Adblock and Chatzilla extensions
xvid codec
BitTornado
Alcohol 120%
PSPad (best text editor)
Aim Ad Hack (AOL instant messenger without ads or spyware)
PDF Creator - Only needed if you're a north-American office zombie.
AVG Free - Good mostly because it's free. It doesn't have real time protection though.

Non-obvious websites you need to know about/visit:

www.drudgereport.com (most important news site, directs all national news channels)
Not really familiar with this one though I've run across it a couple of times.

http://www.smacki.com/mp3 search using google (to search for mp3s)
Didn't know that one, I used Altavista to search for MP3s... I'll give it a try.

www.thepiratebay.org -- Worst of the torrent sites. There's virtually always more comments than seeds. Really horrible site and I don't see what the hype is about.

www.stickam.com (myspace + webcam chatrooms)
I heard about this place on youtube... Was thinking about getting a webcam to join in or start making videos.

http://www.pierceive.com/ (use this site to set your adblock filters)
****ing A. Been using that list for a long, long time.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/ (make sure a movie has a good rating before you watch it)
I use imdb.com - More popular.

Reason 4.0 - excellent music-making software.
Adobe Flash CS3 - duh.
Adobe Audition 2.0 - for recording musics.
MidiNotate Composer - for making midis and scores.
I-Doser - supposedly a program for inducing druglike effects.
Kaspersky 7 - Second best antivirus program, IMO. (Nod32 = 1st).
The Reader's Edge - improves your reading speed tenfold.

websites:

www.toptenreviews.com - lots of awesome recommended software.
interfacelift - good wallpeppers
consumer guide - reviews on software and hardware
urbanoutfitters - decent tees and jackets (kind of overpriced, though)
planetfunk - moar decent clothing (uber-overpriced)

www.drudgereport.com (most important news site, directs all national news channels)
Not really familiar with this one though I've run across it a couple of times.

The guy who runs it, Matt Drudge, was ranked in the Times Magazine top 50 influential people a few years ago. He was largely responsible for John Kerry losing the election in 2004.

The site is basically a bunch of links to real online newspapers. Most are interesting or humorous. Drudgereport.com basically sets the focus, so to speak, of all the major media outlets.

Yeah, I didn't see his post the first time I looked through the topic. Only noticed it quoted :(.

Don't suppose you can... shift the posts around...? :p
