I think they are some kind of genetic projects?Mutations?I dont know,their head looks like its oddly shaped and if youve seen the prowler concept they look almost like really skinny muscly humans.im going with genetic experiments.

i think they are human, i saw a shot of one and you could see that he had cut off gloves, so you can see the human fingers. ill try to find it later. they got 5 fingers, look just like humans with suits. plus they talk english (maybe not proper english but they talk it), they should be able to talk more than just "hold it there" because they were able to communicate and tell those guys to get on the floor and put their hands on their heads. plus the aliens sometime attack the combine. i think some of those small machines belong to the combine (like the scanners and the machines in the tunnels video). and then the other 2 races are hydra and then the aliens. the aliens just attack you without questioning, the combine seem to want to take you away and put you in jail or somthing looking at some of the screenshots in city 17.

humans/hydra/aliens ...i dont think combine are aliens in any way.

you can see the combine has 5 fingers, one finger has the cutoff on the glove and you can see a human finger. 2 eyes, 2 arms, 2 legs, 5 fingers, talking english. i think they are clearly human. but who knows, they could be under mind control by aliens but i doubt it.
