Like the thread title says... in your opinion, what game has the best water effects?

What game has water effects so brilliant, so magnificant, you will stare at the water for prolonged periods of time?

Mine is Half-Life 2.

HL2 by far. Age of Empires III also has some pretty water for an RTS.

Different games have different water effects that are realistic...water can look so different in so many situations.
Half-life 2 has nice up-close and underwater effects...but it's really only good for medium-sized bodies of water like a pond or canal. Far Cry Instincs has nice waves... Battlefield games always have nice looking water to fly over. CSS and DOD make nice use of Source water. Lots of RTSs have nice water to look at from above.

And of course, BioShock looks like it will have the most & highest quality water effects ever put into a game :E

Half-Life 2 probably. I haven't seen all the games with water though.
Real life has some pretty good effects too but they are not as shiny. :O

Farcry (PC) had some nice water effects & Cryteck looks like it'll have great water effects too.

Half-Life 2 takes the crown easily, no FPS game so far comes close to what the Source-engine manages to do IMO... well, until Bioshock is released that is. ;)

I've always liked Unreal's water too, especially when it's transparent. It can still look pretty damn good nowadays despite being several years old.

at the moment is hl2,

Alan wake + Crysis next Gen water owns HL2

I'd like the game to have waves but I'd rather them not look like plastic. hehe
The Virtual Skipper pic is good far way but the water up close doesn't look so hot.

Super Mario Sunshine has some pretty amazing water effects, even though it came out a couple of years ago.

Seconded. The moving ocean in that game still impresses me to this day. I wish I could find a good shot of it though...

FC: Predator easily. Admit it, fanboys.

HL2 also although Morrowind at the time was very impressive.

Outcast, definitely, for being so old. it has just wonderful effects, and real feeling of bouyancy when you swim through it. dont think ive seen that effecti n another game

Far Cry's water makes me want to swim all the time. I like HL2's water, but its not good when its in a big form, like the coast.

Flight Simulator X using DX10.

For now...
HL2

Second place: FSX using DX9:

Indeed Nabobalis, but, Bioshock is gonna blow every games other game out of the water in water effects(Pun intended) :D

Is half-life 2 the only game you people have played? Dark Messiah (amazing underwater effects) and MGS2 easily.

I don't remember MGS3's water. All i know is when you were Raiden swimming in the flooded building where you see that floating dead black guy, the water was amazing.

QFT, that was really awesome...

Supreme Commander. Those who have seen the unofficial youtube leaked 28 minute presentation, you will agree with me.

HL2 owns the indoor, and close up water, at least until BioShock.

However, Far Cry's water in large wide open areas is probably the best in that scenario.

HL2 water looks like hell over long distances, for the most part.

Which isn't saying alot... :p

If you've seen it, you'd know it looked ****ing amazing. I'd say MGS2 water is some of the most shockingly realistic looking water I've seen, oddly even better than MGS3 (although I guess it's easier to make a small amount of indoor water look better than huge lakes).
