in your opinion, what's the best place to pre-order?

I was thinking about this, I'm pre-ordering it today, and was wondering if you think any stores will have it sooner than others?
I know best buy tends to get things in late, but gamestop is usually pretty good with this...

Buy thru steam. I dunno about you but i want a game to play, not a cd to look at and a manual to gain knowledge i already know from. Thats just me tho..

well, I would honestly do steam, but I feel for the amount of time that I've waited, I need to have a physical copy of the game...
I like the idea of actually holding on to the actual copy of the game...if it were any other game, I'd do steam, but with this one,
I'm gonna need to actually be able to hold that bad boy in my hand...you know what I mean?

shaggy, for real, dude. You could always burn the GCF file onto a DVD, and download the artwork of the box from a fan site and print it out...what's the difference ? :)

With me! Send me a bag with some money, and I'll send you... something.

shaggy i was thinking the same thing. until i thought to myself, having the cd's wouldn't do anything, i have all the files right there on my comp already, if i reformat, ill get them again through steam. id probably be like ooo look the cd...then put it in my cd case with the rest of my games. i never use the cd's unless for install. i get no-cd cracks because i hate switching between cds. so not having to deal with the hl2 cds is a big bonus, its all there for me on my steam account.

But just so i dont make myself out to be this complete steam anti-cd freak, I did find a gift certificate to EB games a few days ago, with 50 bucks on it. So I'll probably just use that to buy the standard retail sometime down the road, just to actually go ooo and ahh at the cd's lol. but for actual purchasing for the game, steam all the way.
