Independent Confirmation?

Apologies for starting yet another new thread, but has anyone came across any other verification from valve ? maybe i haven't looked hard enough, but all i've seen are sites that link to these forums. sure, valve has unconventional pr methods, but in the past they've at least made announcements with separate emails to all the gaming sites.
so: has anyone found a separate valve confirmation?
and if not: what does this tell us?
