prompted by the best environment thread I felt a stand alone game such as this needs more publicity.

Infinity: The Quest for Earth website

to quote the about section of it's ModDB page:
Infinity is an open-ended game in which you control a spaceship through the entire galaxy, trying to make a name for yourself. You connect to an online server on which thousands of people are playing, 24H/24. The game does not stop when you log off, but continues to evolve: it is a persistent universe. The game mechanics do not emphasize any particular gameplay style. Combat, trade, exploration, social relationships.. you are free to choose your own carrier path and goals. The only limit is your own imagination!

Infinity is not a traditional role playing game. Although all players are expected to act in concordance with their avatar's motivations, there are no classes or skills to restrict your choices. Combats between spaceships are true real-time, and the outcome is determined by your own intelligence and reflexes. Forget turn-based action and experience the great excitement!

Using procedural techniques, the game universe has been designed to be huge and realistic. There are billions of solar systems and planets, each unique and awaiting to be discovered by a player. Coherent scales and distances are used, orbits of celestial bodies are correctly modeled and change continuously, allowing you to attend a sunrise on the moon of a giant planet, for instance.

and no, pictures so beautiful it'll make you believe these men are gods.

The game looks quite good graphically and I also dig the concept. I hope the game plays well though and has good animations and stuff. It looks like it's not going to be released for a long time though.

Verinice verinice...I'll just forget about this game for now and wait till I hear about it again in a year or two from now :p

I've been keeping my eye on this for a while, now if they only made an SP game, but I guess I'll have to keep waiting for Elite 4.. And in the meantime play Frontier: Elite 2 : ( Oh well.

One thing: "There are billions of solar systems and planets"

They shouldn't say that because there obviously will not be that many planets/moons/thingstodiscover in the game :/

Err Naudian, that's highly feasible I believe..
Frontier Elite 2 from the early 90s, had about a 100 billion star systems in one galaxy, and our Solar system modeled to the last moon and the nearest few stars such as Alpha Centauri etc, the others were procedurally or randomly generated(Can't remember), all with real orbits, you could land on every planet etc, and newtonian physics, and all this fit onto a single floppy disk..:)
But then again this is MMO, but still, don't say stuff like that will not be possible, it most certainly is if a game from 93' could do it.;)

Yea, the MMO part is the only thing that made me think so...

But you're right, and if they really do that with this game I will be amazed :D
