I was getting an interview for the chain of GameStop stores, and the manager who was interviewing me brought up Half-life2 after I said that was one of the things I was looking foward to. He said the publisher was angered by the fact it was stolen, and the guy the gamestop manager spoke to from the publisher said that they just delayed the game out of anger, not the fact that any of it was incomplete, the whole game was ready for its original release.

publisher-(forget how to spell its name)

- i was surprised by this, i thought about it, im like 90% sure this is true, this guy has been with GameStop for awhile in different chains of stores.

Gamestop Employees have no tie-ins with Vivendi, the manager didn't talk to anyone from Vivendi. Vivendi would not delay a game due to "anger."

Gamestop employees know nothing more than we do.

I don't think thats true, it makes no sence at all, absolutely no sence to delay it. They just lose money.

i doubt it , if they did delay it because of that then why would it be untill april. also wouldnt they want there money sooner rather than later. by delaying it theyve not gained anything. pluss why has it been delayed twice and for so long if it was just out of anger ? wouldnt it be just for like 3 weeks or something

Yeah great way of pleasing your customers, delay the game, anger customers and lose money.
If you think for 90% that this is true I'm 90% sure you aren't 100% in your head.

i'm trying to think how that would make any business sense at all (not that corporations generally make decisions based on sense.. but..). i mean, if someone decided to hold the release for no other reason than spite (at whom btw?). someone's losing their job. board of directors anyone?

i vote : nonsense

wow thats the most absurd thing ever.

game gets stolen when supposedly finished, publisher delays out of anger so more people have time to **** with it and dl the beta instead of releasing it and greatly increasing profit.

WRONG

meh, just what i heard from him, think as u wish

Vivendi wouldnt do sh-t like that outta anger, Vivendi is only concerned with profit. they may be angry about the leak but that's not the reason to delay, profit doesnt feel anger.

ok, this probably isn't even the right forum for this (much less the right thread), but it's kinda related.. check this out:

to me, it looks like vivendi's stock jumped way up when the leak happened (end of sept.) is this related to the leak or just a lag effect of sept. 30 once being the release date? i'd have thought their price would have plumeted in wake of the theft.. hmm. the risk wasn't even affected.

Lol the things you guys post sometimes, amazing.

How in the blazes would you who this guy speaks to, you don't even know who he is.

:afro:

they'll probably get a hit if they dont release it... in January you'd have an announcement how HL2 hurt an otherwise promising profit for V

lol i think someone needs to learn how businesses work. Emotion isn't a factor in business.

HL2 isn't remotely big enough to influence Vivendi's stick price, I would think. I'd love to see some official numbers on this. HL2 can't be more than 0.5 percent of Vivendi's total business if even that.

Hmm i wonder why it jumped like that...

Admittedly, that was a little bit assumed on my part, sorry :) lol, but.. from most Gamestop/EBGames employees I've ever talked to, they're just.. wow, bottom of the gaming food chain

Good... if vivendi sells 5 millions of HL2 at 60 euros, that will represent 0.5% of the sales of Vivendi group...
in fact, Vivendi had a lot of problems this last monthes, in the end of last september Morgan-Stanley increased their opinion about vivendi, that may explain the (very slight) increase of the share value.
what is most important for the behavior of the share is the selling by vivendi of various companies, vivendi still having a very large debt....

I just went to my local Gamestop store (in Modesto, California ;)) and they said that their current 'official' (take that however you wish) release date for Half-Life 2 was indeed... *gasp* November 12th?! Whoa.

Too bad I don't believe in that on fuggin' bit. :p

If it doesn't go gold in the next 3 days . . . forget it.

If Vavle was a group of sexually repressed teen nerds, then I would agree.

*Confoozled*

Yeah... this needs to get back on topic or it's gonna get closed :-/.

Gamestop! Gamestop! Gamestop! Gamestop! Gamestop! :D There, that's better.
